- ARK is the only blockchain platform in the program
- The program will match technical writers with promising open source projects
- GSoD aims to raise awareness for open source projects of many different kinds
ARK has been accepted into the Google Season of Docs Program. ARK becomes one of only 50 other projects accepted and is the only blockchain platform to join the prestigious list during its inaugural year.
According to an official announcement onWednesday, ARK made it to the list from among over 200 projects that applied for the Google Season of Docs (GSoD) program. At least 50 open source organizations were selected and on scrutinizing the list, ARK secures a spot as the only blockchain-related program in that list.
Training and outreach
The initiative by Google allows aspiring technical writers to sharpen their skills in the art of technical writing besides helping to evaluate and improve on documentation. ARK announced in the blog post it would like to offer a technical writer the chance to work on an open-source blockchain project that uses innovative technology combined with a very vibrant and active community. The announcement said of the technical writer:
“You will be able to work tightly with the ARK Team and our large technical community. ARK has always felt a huge amount of pride with our Open Source approach and we feel that participating in Open Source programs such as GSoD is not only important for ARK but also for the wider Open Source community.”
Working closely with an open-source community
Season of Docs 2019 is sponsored by Google LLC and should provide a platform for technical writers and open-source projects to work together towards the mutual goal of improving documentation in open source projects. The program will be beneficial especially to technical writers who are new to open source as it gives them an opportunity to gain experience in contributing to open source projects. For the experienced writers, the program will show them a new way of collaborating.
Technical writers who get selected to join the program will work closely with an open-source community where apart from bringing their expertise to the project’s documentation they will have the chance to learn more about new technologies in open-source projects. Together, the team may choose to build a new documentation set, or redesign the existing docs, or improve and document the open source community’s contribution procedures and onboarding experience. In the inaugural documents Google said of the GSoD program:
“Together, we raise public awareness of open source docs, of technical writing, and of how we can work together to the benefit of the global open source community.”
ARK is a light and flexible blockchain platform that targets interchain operability as one of them most important parts of its technology stack. The platform provides tools and services for the development of light applications running on several boards by using blockchain technology as a back-end. ARK says in the announcement it will support the qualified technical writer who joins the GSoD through their program and may consider hiring them permanently in that position.
