- BAT launches the first program built on privacy
- The Brave ads are opt-ins
- Brave browsers blocks unnecessary pop-ups
Brave Software has taken an initiative to fulfill the promise it made during its Initial Coin Offering (ICO) to compensate users for viewing online ads. The company behind the Brave Browser and Basic Attention Token (BAT) will pay users who opt-in to the Brave Ads 70 percent of the ad revenue for browsing the internet.
Program Enabled Through a New Upgrade
The company announced on April 24, 2019, through an official blog post it was launching the first platform built on privacy.
As per the announcement, the revenue sharing program is enabled through a new upgrade for MacOS, Linux and Windows. The ads that users will see don’t replace the traditional web ads but will be launched as non-obtrusive notifications as users surf the web. The blog post stated:
“Since Brave Ads are opt-in, brands know with certainty that when their campaigns run with Brave, their ads are viewed by people who welcome advertising […] Brave’s anonymous-but-accountable campaigns ensure that advertisers are connecting with the users they are seeking, removing the excessive costs, privacy, security, and fraud risks associated with middlemen in digital advertising.”
70 Percent Revenue Sharing
The firm described the notifications at the top of the funnel saying that when a user clicks on one, they will be directed to a site containing more information on the particular offer. Since this is an opt-in version, users will still be able to browse the internet using Brave without any ad intervention but they 70 percent revenue sharing program is an incentive to join.
The tokens will be paid directly to users wallets in Basic Attention Token (BAT). The Brave Ads program is live with several inventory suppliers including Vice, Home Chef, ConsenSys, Ternio BlockCard, MyCrypto, eToro, BuySellAds, TAP Network, The Giving Block, AirSwap, Fluidity and Uphold. Commenting on the initiative, Lin Dai the CEO of TAP Network, which brings 25,000 partner merchants on board stated:
“Brave is changing the paradigm of digital advertising where consumers are fairly rewarded for their attention.”
Calculate the Value and Price of User Attention
Brave is a new web browser that’s like Chrome but with a better pop-up blocker that eliminates ads on YouTube. The browser is designed to pay users via the platform’s native token (BAT) for checking on advertisements as compensation for their attention and content creators.
They have designed the BAT token to cleverly calculate the value and price of user attention within the platform. The token can be used to obtain a variety of advertising and attention-based services on the Brave platform. The utility of the token is based on user attention, which means a person’s focused mental engagement. The BAT team’s website says:
“The Basic Attention Token radically improves the efficiency of digital advertising by creating a new token that can be exchanged between publishers, advertisers, and users. It all happens on the Ethereum blockchain.”
