- Brave (BAT) ranks 31st on the Similarweb top 50 communication apps table
- Opera and Puffin rank 42nd and 50th respectively
- Brave has gained significant adoption in recent times
Brave (BAT) a privacy-centric browser that plans to reward users with Basic Attention Token (BAT) for viewing ads and creating content, has reached another remarkable milestone by surpassing Opera and Puffin web browsers in Android market share, according to a Reddit post on March 22, 2019.
Brave (BAT) Reaching for the Moon
According to a post on popular social media site Reddit, the Brave (BAT) browser has now dwarfed both Opera and Puffin web browsers in terms of market share.
Per data retrieved from SimilarWeb, a digital market intelligence, and web analytics platform, Brave now occupies the 31st position on the top 50 communication apps table by market share while Opera and Puffin web browsers sit at the 42nd and 50th positions respectively.
This represents a significant achievement for the Brave team, as it goes a long way to show that their efforts are beginning to yield desired results and the browser could even go on to surpass Google Chrome which currently occupies the number one position on the SimilarWeb rankings in terms of market share.
However, to become number one, Brave still needs to add several exciting features like language translation functionality, which is an essential tool for many people.
Gradually Getting There
Founded by Brendan Eich and chief technical officer (CTO) Brian Bondy in May 2015, the first version of Brave browser went live in January 2016, and the project has been growing steadily ever since.
In August 2018, the Android version of Brave Browser hit 10 million downloads, making it the first cryptocurrency-powered web browser to achieve such a feat.
According to data available on Google Play Store, Brave Browser has received 84K reviews so far, most of them positive while a few others have placed minor complaints.
Earlier in January 2019, Blockchain Reporter informed that the Brave team had launched the paid to watch ads preview feature, which allows interested users of Brave Browser to view ads and get settled in BAT token.
It’s worth noting that Brave has inked several meaningful partnerships in recent times.
As reported by Blockchain Reporter on December 10, 2018, Brave and HTC joined forces to enable the latter to integrate Brave Browser into its premium smartphones as the default browser.
At press time the price of BAT sits at $0.19, with a market cap of $245.88 million as seen on CoinMarketCap.
