- 0x has announced the demo launch of decentralized exchange infrastructure proof-of-concept called StarkDEX
- The technology can process more than 550 transactions per second
- Other projects under 0x development include 0x Mesh and Coordinators
In a recent post in 0x blog, the project has announced the demo launch of a decentralized exchange infrastructure StarkDEX. The technology, which was co-developed with StarkWare and uses several STARK proof systems across the blockchain to improve 0x exchanges in several ways while maintaining their core strengths, such as anonymity and high level of decentralization.
Faster than ever
Even now, being in early development stages, the system is able to process at least 550 transactions per second, putting up to 8,000 transactions into each block. For comparison, Ethereum can process 3 transactions per second. Not only does it mean that the 0x exchanges will be more scalable, but also more efficient: Ethereum network gas costs for powering the system will drop 200 times.
As development advances, more performance improvements will be introduced. As stated in 0x blog, the team members “are confident we [0x developers] can continue to increase the number of transactions per block.”
STARK working principles
ZK-STARK, short for Zero Knowledge Scalable Transparent Argument of Knowledge, is a proof system that has several important advantages compared to the competing ones. 0x claims that it is highly scalable, transparent, has lean cryptography and does not require a trusted setup.
STARK provides an additional layer for scaling the 0x infrastructure, increasing the number of transactions 0x can process.
Not only STARKs
STARKs aside, 0x developers are currently working hard on implementing 0x Mesh – a P2P network that will allow 0x to process significantly more orders. What’s even more exciting, 0x Mesh will allow anyone to interact with the orders directly in the browser, eliminating the need to run a node. Here is a 0x blog post explaining how this system works.
Another planned feature that will refine 0x even further is the introduction of Coordinators, which are extension contracts relayers they can use. They provide a wide number of advantages, such as protection against front-running, improved marketplace mechanics, and unlimited soft cancels. 0x will provide more information about Coordinators in the near future.
