- Stellar Lumens ditched their old rocket ship logo for a more minimal logo
- The change was done keeping in mind the future of the organization
- XLM currently trades at $.103 with a total market cap of almost $2 billion
On March 12, 2019, blockchain project Stellar Lumens (XLM) got a new look by doing away with its famous rocket ship logo and introducing a more sophisticated and minimal logo to appeal to financial institutions.
Just a few weeks after privacy-centric cryptocurrency Electric Coin (formerly Zcash) rebranded itself, Stellar Lumens seems to have followed a similar approach.
According to a Medium post published March 12, 2019, the Stellar Development Foundation dumped its rocket ship logo for something “with more design flexibility.”
So Long, Rocket Ship
One of the most appealing things about the cryptocurrency industry is its visual aesthetics. Some of the most popular logos in the industry are those of bitcoin, ether, litecoin, TRON, and XRP, among others.
Stellar’s iconic rocket ship is an integral part of the budding industry. However, the organization felt the need to change its aesthetics given the rapidly dynamic and fast-moving nature of the market. The company stated that it has “big plans” for the future and envisioning that journey with an animated rocket ship logo was not practically viable.
The company’s Medium post reads in part:
“Could you see a cartoon rocket ship in use at some central bank or in a press release from a national monetary authority? We couldn’t either.”
The post added that the company’s official website will be revamped in May 2019, while the newly unveiled logo will henceforth be used in all the Stellar related projects.
Hello Stellar Lumens 2.0
With regard to the new logo, the Stellar Foundation noted a number of things that make it an ideal fit for the blockchain-based payments network.
The Foundation stated that the new logo is much more versatile than the rocket ship in that it would look good at any size: as an app icon, on a tee shirt or a billboard.
It’s also worth highlighting that the new logo has a design that could easily be used as a currency symbol. The company wanted a logo that could stand in for the XLM coin and be easy to use in a sentence like a dollar, pound, euro, and yen.
