- Fans will be able to buy perk packages using bitcoin
- Bitcoin logo on the sleeves will bring exposure to millions
- Timing is the best for BTC exposure
Leading English soccer club Watford FC has expanded its partnership with Sportsbet.io and will place bitcoin branding on the sleeves or their players playing shirts. The move will feature bitcoin’s logo to millions of football fans every week.
Improve Awareness around Bitcoin
The top-flight football club that finished in 11th position during the UK’s 2018-19 premier league season said in an official press release on September 12, 2019, that “the logo is part of a wider campaign to improve awareness around Bitcoin and educate the public on the benefits of using cryptocurrencies.”
As per the press release, the new contract with the multi-currency sports betting firm will enable supporters to purchase official club merchandise and products using the cryptocurrency. The initial contract that was inked between Sportsbet.io and Watford FC in June 2019 saw the company replace online broker FxPro on the front of the Premier League team’s home and away shirts. Sportsbet.io head of Marketing Justin Le Brocque said:
“The crypto community have been hugely supportive of us since we began, so putting the Bitcoin logo on the sleeve felt like a fun way to give something back while also showing them our support […] some of the biggest challenges we and others like us face is raising awareness, dispelling common myths around cryptos and educating the public on the advantages and opportunities presented by cryptocurrencies.”
Challenges the Accepted Norm
The United Kingdom’s Football Premier League is reportedly the most-watched sports league globally with reports showing that its viewership continues to grow with hundreds of millions of people watching its matches worldwide. Leading television networks have increased the ratings of the premier league with statistics showing over 2.2 million people were tuned in to watch during the last week of the premier league representing an increase of close to 20 percent over the last one year.
The initiative comes at a time when the world’s leading cryptocurrency is struggling to show its place as a safe-haven asset in comparison with gold. Bitcoin has recently experienced a steady increase in unique addresses and hash rate, which are considered being important factors in the long-term growth of the asset. Commenting, Hornets’ chairman and CEO Scott Duxbury stated:
“Placing the Bitcoin logo on a Premier League shirt is something that challenges the accepted norm. We’re excited about the partnerships and the potential for new global conversations that it could help start for our club.”
