- The Brave browser will allow 5.5 million users access to premium content on Cheddar
- Cheddar CEO says his viewers are obsessed with crypto
- This is the best implementation for Brave browser so far
Brave, the blockchain-based web browser has partnered with Cheddar news website. Because of the partnership, Cheddar clients will enjoy premium content free-of-charge for the next three months.
The two companies made a joint statement announcing the new partnership that will allow Cheddar’s clients to automatically unlock premium content on the Cheddar website for the next three months beginning January 29, 2019.
Obsession with Crypto
Cheddar founder and CEO Jon Steinberg stated that viewers on their news network have an eye for cryptocurrencies and the site has even been hosting a crypto-focused show called the Crypto Craze.
The CEO said he believes that by allowing all Brave users get access to VIP content via crypto funding and letting them do so without having to register was a superb way for attracting a more enthusiastic membership. Steinberg said:
“Cheddar viewers are obsessed with crypto; we even have a show dedicated to it – The Crypto Craze. The idea of unlocking our premium feeds for Brave users via crypto funding; with no sign-up, seemed like a natural way to engage a passionate community.”
The Brave browser was founded by Mozilla co-founder Brendan Eich in 2015 following a successful effort that raised a record $35 million in 30 seconds flat through the sale of its Ethereum-based Basic Attention Token (BAT) in May 2017.
Brave has Undertaken Several Partnerships
The privacy-focused browser that boasts at least 5.5 million users every month has since its inception been burning the midnight oil to try and offer fresh services.
The group successfully partnered with Dow Jones Media Group in April 2018 to put its blockchain content delivery system to test. Brave recently announced that it would be using blockchain identity startup Civic’s verification service as a way of ensuring publishers get their dues via its token BAT.
The latest partnership announced by BAT was its addition to Coinbase Exchange’s professional and retail trading platforms.
Users who want to enjoy the new offering can access it by visiting Brave.com/download so they can access the browser and which will direct them to Cheddar.com. The Cheddar team declared:
“The Brave browser will automatically be recognized and the live Cheddar feeds will be unlocked.”
Steinberg, who has said he is not considering any extra crypto partnerships, said his choice of Brave as a partner was informed by his decision to work with partners who understand the media well as opposed to crypto instead of trying to build a new crypto-based solution. He added:
“I heard about Brave a few months ago, […] they sit at the intersection of crypto and content and I wanted us to be involved. It seems like a unique model that sits beyond advertising and subscription, and I want us to experiment.”
