The Wednesday, December 19, 2018, announcement was made on the 10th day of “12 Days of Coinbase” initiative, where the crypto exchange is making a major announcement every day beginning December 10, 2018 until December 21, 2018. The exchange explains the motivation behind the Coinbase Earn initiative in their official blog spot saying:
“Coinbase’s mission is to create an open financial system, where anyone in the world can participate on equal terms from their computer or smartphone. To bring this vision about, we’ll need to make blockchain technology more accessible, both in the sense of making cryptocurrencies easier to obtain and easier to understand.”
The crypto exchange anticipated a huge demand for the service and, as a result, announced it was “launching the Coinbase Earn” on an invite-only mode via a single asset ZRX with more educational content and other crypto assets to be added in the future as Coinbase gauges the results of this experiment.
A few users who will be lucky enough to receive the special Coinbase Earn invitation will be able to visit the Coinbase Earn ZRX page and will be able to earn some amounts of cryptocurrencies after they complete some educational tasks via short video lessons and quizzes.
The post said further that those users who haven’t yet received an invitation not to get worried since it was still possible to view the lessons on the educational page free of charge encouraging them to click on the “Join Waitlist” button as they wait for their chance to get the all-important invitation. The motivation for this initiative stems from what Coinbase believes is the problem with the existing ways for earning cryptocurrencies. The blog post explains:
“Traditionally, the two ways people have obtained cryptocurrency are through mining or buying. Mining cryptocurrency typically requires technical knowledge and high upfront costs, while buying cryptocurrency can require disposable income to exchange for cryptocurrencies.”
The initiative by Coinbase is meant to assist people to open up to blockchain technology and especially attract the new users, who include those people that are curious about digital assets but are willing to give them a trial for free before they dip both feet. Coinbase hopes to make cryptos more accessible by addressing this special need.
