- A Florida Court Has Ordered Craig Wright to disclose His bitcoin addresses
- This is regarding a case accusing Wright of Stealing $5 Billion of Bitcoin
It seems that the drama never ends with Craig Wright. Barely a week after BSV was delisted en mass from many crypto exchanges following his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto, Craig Wright has found himself in yet more legal hot water over the alleged theft of some bitcoin. On May 3, 2019. the United States District Court of the Southern District of Florida ordered Craig Wright to produce a list of all his public bitcoin addresses.
The reason for this is part of an ongoing case with David Kleinman, a computer scientist who has accused Craig Wright of stealing hundreds of thousands of bitcoin.
The Ongoing Case
The case against Craig Wright was first brought forward in February 2018 and the time, the tokens in question were worth about $5 billion. Besides the order to produce his bitcoin addresses, the plaintiff asked the courts to order Wright to produce all his bitcoin addresses as of December 31, 2013, and also to make him identify all the bitcoin that was moved to a blind trust in 2011 as well as documents relating to the trust itself. Wright might also be required to identify under oath all the past trustees and beneficiaries of the trust in a bid to permit further deposition in regard to his ownership and control of bitcoins. Wright had previously filed a motion to seal information regarding is bitcoin Holdings but this motion was denied by the court.
“On or before May 15, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, Dr. Wright shall produce all transactional records of the blind trust, including but not limited to any records reflecting the transfer of bitcoin into the blind trust in or about 2011. The production shall be accompanied by a sworn declaration of authenticity,” the court order says.
While Wright has tried to get the case dismissed, it seems it will be going forward and the court, along with the public are going to be aware of just how much bitcoin he owns. It will also lend some validity to or completely dismiss claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto, as the amount of bitcoin he may or may not hold might indicate that.
As the case continues to gather even more attention from both the media and crypto watchers, is it is obvious that Craig Wright will continue to be one of the most fascinating figures of crypto for a good while.
