On July 9, ORGANO, a company dealing in nutrition products and proprietary food, announced its blockchain enabled merger with IBM food trust. The alliance is meant to build verifiable trust into each product that ORGANO produces.
While announcing the platform, which is branded as ORGANO Products Trust, the news was accompanied by the introduction of the first batch of the top-5 most purchased ORGANO products from several product families for piloting, testing, and launching on the platform.
IBM betting on blockchain
The partnership of IBM Food Trust and ORGANO is projected to enable them to implement a strategy for traceability by creating a connection of participants across the food supply chain through a permanent way, permissions, and shared record of food system data. Such participants may include consumers, supply partners, distribution partners, as well as commerce partners.
The collaborative network set up between manufacturers and distributors will make sharing of essential product information safe and comfortable, which will benefit consumers. Therefore, consumers can now be in the know of the products’ nutritional properties as well as the potential presence of allergens and questionable ingredients.
The role of IBM Food Trust members will be to make sure that the information availed to the public is transparent and can be relied upon by the consumers.
Food Trust partners intend on working closely together to share their expertise, create a knock-on effect among suppliers, and provide consumers with guarantees about product origin and quality.
