- The new release has additional features and fixes
- There is a noticeable improvement in transaction speeds and reduced CPU costs
- The upgrade has tools for easier smart contract development
The EOSIO development team has released the upgraded EOSIO version 1.6.0 and has reported a noticeable improvement. The new release comprises additional features and fixes to improve the cumulative patches made to enhance v1.5.
The company has said in an official Medium blog post the updates on the EOSIO software will improve the efficiency of the peer-to-peer networking layer besides real-time transactions to eventually improve the overall transaction speed. Saying that the upgrade was in line with the company’s progressive ambition to improve their performance, the company said they intend to maintain the fastest protocol on the market. The company said in an official Tweet they had experienced a noticeable improvement:
“…tests show upwards of a 35% increase in likely transaction speed…
…We are projecting noticeable improvements to sustainable transactions per second, reduced CPU costs, and lower latency on all EOSIO based blockchains.”

According to the statement, the yardstick has been achieved following tests of the EOSIO software conducted on a private network which has shown an increase in the functioning of the network. The company says even though the benchmark doesn’t yet represent real-world usage, it has given the clearest sign that there is a marked improvement to transaction speeds per second, reduced billable CPU time for the transactions and lower latency for block propagation.
EOSIO is best known in cryptosphere for undertaking the most successful initial coin offering (ICO) as far as the amount of monies raised is concerned. The company announced the previous version of the EOSIO V1.5.0 software on November 21, 2018 calling it a release candidate. The firm then said it would collect user feedback to enhance the developer experience as it builds applications for the EOS platform.
The EOSIO V1.5.0 version itself contained several improvements and enhancements which were going to be tested thoroughly and documented after several cycles before it could be promoted to the stable version. The foregoing updates have been made to benefit block producers since they are better equipped to respond to “arbitration issues in the community and resolve any disputes and recover issues on the EOSIO public blockchain.”
The upgrade features new tooling that’s aimed at improving the simplicity of “creating, developing, and testing EOSIO smart contract development. There is a new tool dubbed eosio-init that can generate a template project for developing smart contracts and which creates a new enables users to easily begin the creation of smart contracts.
