- SMBC, The Ethereum Foundation, and others have donated over $800 thousand towards a Blockchain course at the University of Tokyo
- The course is aimed towards students who want to go into the Blockchain industry and will run for three years
Other contributors include Good Luck 3, JSS, Zipper, Hotto link, and Money Forward.
The aim of the course is to equip potential blockchain entrepreneurs and develop the necessary real-life skills that students will need in the industry.
Details of the course
The course is going to be titled “Blockсhain Innovation Donation Course” and will be held at the university’s graduate school of engineering.
It will run from Nov. 1, 2018, until Oct. 31, 2021.
The course will give emphasis to decentralized solutions, their social implementation, and human resources. It is geared towards students who wish to become Blockchain entrepreneurs at some point.
The course will also have a good amount of practical work and will require students to develop some form of blockchain innovation.
This is particularly important as blockchain as an industry is more about tangible products and services.
The fact that large firms are putting their money towards this venture is remarkable.
However, the fact that a University is offering such a course in the first place is less remarkable.
From NYU offering a Blockchain course as well to a University in Armenia launching a blockchain lab, the academic world is picking up on the importance of blockchain in the modern world and is studying it.
42 percent of the top 50 universities in the world offer some sort of Blockchain course and the number is only slated to get higher over time.
Eventually, a degree in Blockchain might be offered at universities around the world.
The Ethereum Foundation, on their part, have been very active in donations towards the Blockchain course. This has been done through their Ethereum foundation which announced its latest wave of recipients for their grant only a few weeks ago.
This round of donations will hopefully push more large firms to throw their weight behind blockchain innovations and the study of blockchain at an academic level.
