- IAMMPASS will enable biometric authentication through reading a person’s palm vein patterns.
- Due to scalability concerns and its zero fee transactions, the developers chose IOTA and the tangle over any of the blockchain alternatives
The IOTA Foundation recently announced that its open source Tangle technology will be home to a new biometric authentication system developed by independent developers in the community. This exceptional concept will use a person’s palm vein patterns for identification.
IAMPASS technology will use a biometric technology to scan the veins inside a person’s hands and then create a unique identity for each user. This allows easy and unique authentication. It has been gathering momentum as this IAMPASS Proof of Concept (PoC) is another milestone for adoption of the tangle and the fast developing Smart City initiative.
Identity on the Tangle
As crypto inches its way toward the mainstream, more and more leaders are starting to acknowledge the fact that traditional centralized identity service providers can no longer keep up with the needs of their clients. The old methods no longer work in providing control needed to secure user data from any connected and digital devices.
Thus, a lot of organizations are looking for a better solution on how to secure digital identity verification on a distributed ledger. This will not only provide peace of mind to users but will also provide significant cost savings as businesses will no longer need to use authentication and verification fees that are often charged by security service providers.
This concept even received good commendations from Toan Nguyen, Director Business Development & Cloud Platform at Crunchbase:
“Distributed ledger technologies are becoming a key component of new smart city and transformative digitalization initiatives, especially with regard to data management and security. The unique design of the IOTA Tangle makes it ideal for the emerging security applications of digital identity and personal data in these connected environments. Together, we expect the IOTA ecosystem and IAMPASS to help drive the next phase of digital identity management for high secure environments like data centers and in the smart city.”
Adoption begins
Through IAMPASS, businesses can enable easy and efficient authentication and verification. This new technology will not only help distributed ledgers but can also provide an audit trail in other businesses that are in high-security environments, including airports, train stations, and data centers.
They can employ masked authenticated messaging from one access point to another. It can also be used in other identity-dependent environments like banks that need asset management solutions. Therefore, the benefits of this innovation goes beyond blockchain. Since it requires zero-cost transaction fees, many startup and developing companies will surely benefit from it.
On top of it all, IOTA‘s tangle technology is amazingly scalable. It’s no secret that scalability has been one of the biggest issues in blockchain industry, making this solution even more efficient. This factor has been a major issue in various blockchain-based distributed ledger technology. With all these benefits considered, it only shows how IOTA’s concept can be highly valuable in the near future.
