This is a huge deal as Fortnite is one of the most popular online games on the planet and has millions of accounts.
Retail row supports GlobalBee, which allows buyers to pay merchants in a number of Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and XRP.
A gaming world
There has been a significant interaction between the worlds of gaming and blockchain.
As Nicola Gilot, CEO of Ultra told BlockchainReporter in an exclusive interview,
“Gamers are, by nature, people who love innovation and are very open to new technologies. Also, most of them already understand the concept of digital currencies in form of game currencies and tokens so its nothing new to them. “
It would seem that many who game online are very open to emerging technology, including blockchain and Cryptocurrency.
This isn’t always a good thing, however, as in 2018, several hackers were found to have used online gaming accounts to blackmail their victims into giving them information with which Cryptocurrency was stolen.
This new development, however, is a step in the right direction to push Cryptocurrency into even wider acceptance and use.
A year in review
Monero, like many other cryptocurrencies, had a rather interesting 2018.
In November, the Ledger S wallet announced support for Monero and the currency.
“We are thrilled to welcome another top-ten cryptocurrency to the Ledger platform with Monero,” said Ledger CEO Eric Larchevêque at the time.
Perhaps, however, one of the biggest developments from Monero in 2018 was their bulletproof upgrade in late 2018.
With that upgrade, transaction costs through the network were reduced by a staggering 96 percent, setting a new industry standard.
Needless to say, Monero ended 2018 with a bang and seems to be keeping that momentum into 2019.
