- NEXT Biometrics has announced its collaboration with IOTA Foundation
- This partnership will be a way to accelerate IoT identity management solutions
- Both IOTA and NEXT will utilize their networks in order to promote their technology and upcoming projects
NEXT Biometrics is becoming more involved in the Internet of Things (IoT) market. In fact, the global leader in fingerprint sensor technology has recently partnered with the IOTA Foundation to accelerate IoT identity management solutions.
About IOTA and NEXT
Known as an advanced fingerprint sensor technology provider, NEXT provides easy-to-use and uncompromising security technology. This allows them to bring the best possible user experience in the government ID, smart card, and access control markets. They have a patented NEXT Active Thermal™ principle, and it is designed to allow the development of large as well as high-quality fingerprint sensors.
IOTA is a non-profit organization focused on distributed ledger technology or DLT. Its goal is to support the development as well as standardization of new DLTs, primarily the IOTA Tangle.
The Tangle is an innovative type of distributed ledger technology or DLT. This DLT is designed for the Internet of Things environment. It is an open-source protocol facilitating novel Machine-to-Machine or M2M interactions, including secure data transfer, fee-less and real-time micropayments, and the dissemination and collection of sensor-based and other kinds of data and oracle.
Future of collaboration
The collaboration of IOTA and NEXT will benefit the latter’s business activities, especially now that NEXT is showing a strong focus on biometric payment cards. On the other hand, IOTA has announced in October that it was looking into the use of palm vein biometrics, the partnership also brings a further indication of the IOTA’s interest in its upcoming biometric technology projects.
In a statement by Alain Faburel, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at NEXT, he said:
“We look forward to collaborating with IOTA towards developing new standards for safe, convenient identification for the IoT market. Combining IOTA Foundation’s standards for interactions between IoT devices and our secure biometric sensors will enable safe transactions across a multitude of IoT applications.”
The company will integrate IOTA technology into its sensor products. This will help leverage IOTA’s extensive technical expertise to help in ensuring that the development of seamless solutions. Both IOTA and NEXT will utilize their networks to promote their technology.
The director of partnerships at the IOTA Foundation, Holger Köther, also shared his thoughts about this collaboration, saying their team is excited to work with an industry leader fingerprint sensor technology and authentication solution:
“IOTA Tangle provides secure data transfer, with an immutable audit trail. The integration of IOTA into NEXT Biometrics sensors is a key step to build solutions that enable safe, effective user identification at the device level. Together these solutions will provide digital trust as we move towards the Internet of Everything.”
