- Donald Trump has been harshly criticized by Theresa May for his remarks directed towards US congresswomen
- He told the congresswomen to ‘go back’ to their countries
Donald Trump is famous for being a very unfiltered politician and has often voiced his opinion on many political issues such as Brexit and the recent remarks made by a former British Ambassador in Washington. The United States and the UK have a long-standing relationship and this means that Donald Trump is often involved in the British political system.
Unfortunately, not all these interactions are friendly as he has recently come under criticism from outgoing British Prime Minister Theresa May over recent attacks from Trump towards various female democratic congresswomen as reported on July 15.
Trump tells unwanted citizens to leave the country
Donald Trump has been the subject of great criticism in the last few days following attack made against several unnamed politicians who he told to return to their home countries. It is commonly believed that he is referring to several congresswomen such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley who have recently voiced criticism towards Trump’s immigration policies.
In her strongest criticism of Trump to date, Theresa May stated that the president’s attacks were unacceptable. Her spokesperson said:
“The prime minister’s view is that the language used to refer to these women was completely unacceptable.”
Trump’s comments were made via Twitter in which he stated that it was interesting to see democratic congresswomen who came from countries with poor governments that are a complete catastrophe and some of the worst in the world and that they had no right to tell the people of the United States how the country should be run. Trump also suggested that they return to their countries and fix their crime before returning to America to give suggestions.
Progressive Democrats a thorn in Trump’s side
He has previously condemned both Ocasio-Cortez and Omar by stating that he did not know where they came from and that they were a part of a group of Democrats are being disrespectful towards the house speaker and were causing tensions within the house.
Trump’s statements are often met with a lot of backlash but this is one of the few times that the politician on the level of Theresa May is so openly and bluntly criticizing him. It will be interesting to see what relationship Trump will maintain both the UK and the incoming Prime Minister as time goes on.
