As early as the start of its fourth season in late 2023, SailGP, the worldwide league co-founded by tech mogul Larry Ellison, might include a team owned and run by cryptocurrency fans. SailGP and blockchain development platform NEAR launched a multi-year agreement on Thursday that would allow sailing and cryptocurrency enthusiasts to interact with their favorite teams and players in unprecedented ways. SailGP will foster collaboration between the sports and blockchain industries, resulting in a diverse set of committed innovators. Fans will become collaborators and storytellers, finding a place to belong, as the focus is on creating a never-before-seen community. The goal is to let fans to own special SailGP NFT moments and artwork, providing them access to previously unreleased content and allowing them to be a part of a community that is at the cutting edge of sports and technology.
Aside from DAOs, NEAR and SailGP will work together on integrated technology and R&D initiatives in the areas of event ticketing, NFT and gaming offers, and mobile app integration. NEAR will also make advantage of SailGP’s global technology platform to create real-world intellectual property and Web3 apps for fan interaction, data distribution and administration, league management, and other purposes. NEAR will also provide on-site experiences and activations at worldwide SailGP events to assist conventional sectors in making the transition to Web3 by utilizing NEAR’s easy, safe, and scalable blockchain technology. These activities will be available to both new and returning members of the NEAR community.
