TinyTap, the leading platform for user-generated educational games, and Animoca Brands, the company that is advancing digital property rights for gaming and the open Metaverse, made an announcement today that the second series of teacher-authored Publisher NFTs will be auctioned off on OpenSea beginning at 19:00 (EST) on 15 December 2022. TinyTap is a platform that enables educators to develop and share interactive educational content, as well as receive a share of the revenue when that content is used by learners.
The platform does not require educators to know how to write code. TinyTap’s Publisher NFTs were just recently introduced, and they make use of Web3 technologies and the community to enhance the earning opportunities available to educators, create new revenue and promotional alternatives for co-publishers, and empower the community to directly support the expansion of learning.
Yogev Shelly, CEO of TinyTap, said: “TinyTap’s Publisher NFTs greatly bolster our mission to build tools that empower communities to create, own, and share education that is meaningful to them. We are thrilled to welcome the Web3 community to our creator economy for educational games and we are especially grateful to early supporters who recognized that Publisher NFTs introduces powerful new utility for digital assets, creators, educators, and blockchain ecosystems.”
An Innovative Use of NFTs for the Community
A TinyTap Course is a curated bundle of educational games developed on the TinyTap platform by one educator (often referred to as a “teacher”) in a certain topic area. A Publisher NFT offers co-publishing rights to a TinyTap Course. Customers who purchase these NFTs are given the opportunity to participate in the publishing process with TinyTap and the instructor who developed the Course.
Misa Matsuzaki, CEO of Metaverse Job Japan and buyer of two Publisher NFTs in the first auction, commented: “TinyTap now enables publishing rights for digital educational content, giving the community like us the opportunity to support the content we care about and distribute that content around the world. We are excited to share this innovative use of NFTs not only with our community but throughout all of Japan.”
NFT buyers receive a portion of the benefits gained through co-publishing activities in exchange for promoting and marketing the connected Courses. TinyTap instructors already receive compensation for the creation of content within a conventional Web2 architecture; but, with the introduction of Web3-based Publisher NFTs, they have the opportunity to dramatically increase the amount of money they can make.
Participating teachers are awarded a share equal to 50% of the net revenues from the sale of any Publisher NFTs that are linked to their Courses, as well as ten percent of any ongoing revenue that is generated by such Courses. Buyers of Publisher NFTs are eligible to collect up to 100% of any revenue generated by the Courses associated with their NFTs as a direct result of the buyers’ own promotional activities.
The Huge Success of Publisher NFTs
TinyTap demonstrated the commercial viability of Publisher NFTs in November 2022 by holding a first auction that was completely subscribed and earned 138.926 ETH (about $228,000 at the time of sale). The instructors who created the content that was linked to the NFTs each received 67.7 ETH, which was equivalent to around $111,000 at the time of sale. Learn English with Gabi was the NFT that sold for the greatest sum, generating its creator Gabi Klaf 22.9 ETH (about $37,600 at the time of sale).
This figure is more than 13 times the typical monthly primary teacher income in Israel, where she is situated. Commenting on the sale at the time, Gabi Klaf said: “I’ve been teaching ESL passionately for over 30 years. I thought that discovering TinyTap’s interactive game platform was my biggest teaching breakthrough, but now I see that the Publisher NFT is my real breakthrough.”
TinyTap and Animoca Brands have finally made the information regarding the second sale of Publisher NFTs available to the public. According to the information provided, the second genesis auction of six TinyTap Publisher NFTs will get underway on December 15, 2022, at 19:00 (EST), and it will continue for a total of 48 hours. For participation, a crypto wallet that is supported by OpenSea is required. Users can participate in the auction being held at OpenSea.
Disrupting Education with Blockchain Technology
TinyTap was established in 2012 as a subsidiary of Animoca Brands and is currently the world’s largest educational games library. TinyTap features more than 200,000 activities that were created by educators and publishers such as Sesame Street and Oxford University Press. TinyTap’s code-free authoring platform is utilized in the production of games, which are then made available to parents as part of TinyTap’s subscription service or directly to families in the form of bundles for purchase.
The level of user interaction that a piece of content generates is one of the factors that determines how much of the subscription revenue is split with the content producer. TinyTap is one of the top 10 grossing kids apps worldwide. It provides educational content to families in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Arab world, with a focus on young learners (Pre-K to Grade 6). TinyTap serves 8.2 million families with content created by over 100,000 educators.
