Hackathons are great at one thing: getting a rough idea working in a weekend. What they don’t do is turn that idea into something people actually use.
That part starts after the judges leave. Teams still have to clean up code, get audited, fix what breaks, and figure out who their users are. Plenty of good projects stall right there.
A growing number of blockchain ecosystems have noticed, and they’re building programs that pick up where the hackathon ends. Here are seven worth knowing about.
1. Solana: From Hackathon Winner to Funded Startup
Solana has one of the clearest paths from competition to company. It runs through Colosseum, an independent organization that hosts Solana’s online hackathons and then invites standout winners into its accelerator.
Teams that get in receive a $250,000 pre-seed investment, plus mentorship, a founder network, and a demo day in front of investors. The idea is simple: the hackathon isn’t the finish line. It’s the audition.
2. Casper Network: Getting Prototypes Ready for Mainnet
Casper Network is taking a hands-on approach with Casper Forward, a program built for one job: helping hackathon projects get to mainnet.
Its first cohort of 28 builders joined in October 2026, drawn from the recent Casper Agentic Buildathon and earlier Casper hackathons. Teams get technical guidance, security audit support, introductions to ecosystem partners, and help with go-to-market planning.
3. Avalanche: Building the Business, Not Just the Code
Avalanche’s official incubator, Codebase, is a 10-week program for early-stage Web3 founders. Teams get non-dilutive funding, mentorship, and clear milestones to work toward.
What stands out is how much time goes to the business side. Founders work on business models, customer acquisition, and investor pitches alongside the engineering. Codebase treats a working product as the starting point, not the goal.
4. Ethereum: Backing the Infrastructure Everyone Uses
Ethereum doesn’t run a classic accelerator. Instead, the Ethereum Foundation’s Ecosystem Support Program funds public goods: open-source tooling, research, and infrastructure that other developers build on.
These are often projects that would struggle to raise traditional investment, because they don’t earn revenue directly. Alongside targeted grants, builders can book Office Hours for feedback and guidance. The payoff is indirect but real: every solid tool funded makes the next app easier to ship.
5. BNB Chain: Tech Support Meets Startup Growth
BNB Chain’s Most Valuable Builder (MVB) accelerator, run with YZi Labs and CMC Labs, mixes technical help with business mentorship. Founders get guidance on product, security, tokenomics, marketing, and fundraising, plus introductions to partners and investors.
The focus is squarely on viability. MVB pushes teams to work out a real business model and a plan for attracting users, because a working smart contract on its own won’t carry a project very far.
6. Arbitrum: Cutting the Costs of Building
Arbitrum skips the single-accelerator model and goes after specific pain points instead. ArbiFuel sponsors gas fees so early teams can test and onboard users without paying for every transaction. The Arbitrum Audit Program subsidizes smart contract audits, and a set of targeted grants covers areas like AI agents and DeFi.
None of this is flashy. But for a small team watching every dollar, covering gas and audit costs can be the difference between launching and not.
7. Optimism: Paying for Impact After the Fact
Optimism flipped the usual model. Through Retro Funding, it rewarded projects for value they had already delivered, rather than betting on what they might do. Past rounds have backed apps, infrastructure, and developer tools that serve the wider ecosystem, often the kind of work that never earns revenue on its own.
Optimism paused Retro Funding in 2026 while it rethinks the approach. Still, the earlier rounds raised a question every ecosystem has to face: how do you keep useful projects alive once they’ve launched?
Life After the Hackathon
Hackathons aren’t going anywhere, and they shouldn’t. They’re still one of the best ways to surface new ideas and pull developers into an ecosystem.
But the programs above show a shift in thinking. Colosseum, Casper Forward, and Codebase offer structured paths from prototype to product. Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Optimism take a different route, using grants, cost relief, and rewards to help projects at different stages.
As networks compete for builders, what they offer after the winners are announced may matter as much as the prize pool. The next great Web3 product might owe as much to the months after a hackathon as to the weekend it started.
