Though Web3 and the Metaverse as emerging technologies have a lot of potentials, many are still skeptical about them as to the unregulated foundation they are built on.
Earlier today, in his 11th, Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit, Bill Gates, a billionaire, American business magnate, and philanthropist, gave out his opinion on Web3 and the Metaverse downplaying their growth and instead backing artificial intelligence (AI) as the next revolutionary technology.
Bill Gate Devalues Web3 and the Metaverse’s Potential
In his 11th AMA on Reddit, a Redditor asked the billionaire if there’s any mammoth technology that is at a similar stage now as the internet was in the early 2000s.
“Hi, Bill. Many years ago, I think around 2000, I heard you say something on TV like, “people are vastly overestimating what the internet will be like in 5 years and vastly underestimating what it will be like in 10 years. Is any mammoth technology shift at a similar stage right now? Any tech shift – not necessarily the Internet,” the Redditor asked.
Bill Gates replied, expressing his optimism on how AI is the most accurate answer to the question, downplaying other technologies such as crypto and the Metaverse.
“AI is the big one. I don’t think Web3 was that big, or that metaverse stuff alone was revolutionary, but AI is quite revolutionary,” said Bill Gates.
Notably, Bill Gate has always not been a fan of the current Web3, surrounded with just cash grabs, crypto, and NFTs. Particularly, Bill Gates claimed crypto and NFTs are “100% based on greater fool theory.”
