Bitget is introducing a new platform called IPO Prime, which will provide eligible investors with the opportunity to invest in tokenized pre-IPO shares of global technology giants. The first product to be released via the platform is preOPAI, a digital token tied to OpenAI’s future economic performance after a potential public offering.
The subscription period for preOPAI will be from May 12, 8:00 AM UTC and May 15, 8:00 AM UTC. The offering is being offered on Solana via Republic and eligible participants are invited to join starting at $100.
The launch marks an increasing trend of introducing traditional financial services, such as private market exposure, onto blockchain-based ecosystems.
What is preOPAI?
PreOPAI is a synthetic asset that Bitget has declared will be used to reflect the post-IPO trading dynamics of OpenAI in the cryptocurrency market once it enters the public realm. The exchange highlighted that the token is not a direct representation of OpenAI shares or any equity stake, nor does it give the token holders any voting rights or legal association with OpenAI.
The token’s issuer, Republic International Cayman, reportedly has compliant licensing frameworks in various jurisdictions. According to the company, the product will provide exposure to potential valuation growth based on how OpenAI fares in the public markets going forward.
In addition, Bitget stated that the preOPAI product is not endorsed, approved or authorized by OpenAI.
Subscription and Trading Structure
IPO Prime employs a commitment model based on subscription, and the amount of participation is limited according to the Bitget’s VIP level on Bitget. Users will reportedly have the opportunity to trade preOPAI on Bitget’s spot market after the end of the subscription phase, where the trading rules will also be applied.
The exchange explained that token holders may also choose to wait until the lock-up period connected to the underlying debt asset expires, which is expected to occur around six months after OpenAI’s eventual IPO. In the following phase, the issuer can order Bitget to convert their holdings to tokens that are backing the stock or into USDT, based on the company’s market value.
Bitget said that each conversion process and settlement process would abide by the terms of the investment contract that was signed by participants.
Risk Disclosure and Investor Considerations
The exchange noted that products available under the IPO Prime are not guaranteed to be free of risk and can experience significant volatility and uncertainty. Risks mentioned include fluctuations in the value of the underlying company, concerns about the liquidity of underlying market products, and the fact that an eligible event, such as an IPO or acquisition, may not happen.
The platform’s FAQ states that if OpenAI extended the delay or revoked its decision to go public, the company would implement fallback procedures that would be spelled out in the subscription agreement. The redemption time and reward would be determined by the terms and conditions agreed to when participating.
No subscription, custodial, and management fees would apply for investors to participate in IPO Prime, while some conversion fees may apply based on the agreement, Bitget also stated.
Tokenized Real-World Asset Trend Expands
IPO Prime also follows the growing of cryptocurrency companies seeking tokenized access to traditional financial assets and private market investments. In reality, real-life asset tokenization is one of the fastest-growing areas in digital finance, as exchanges and blockchain-based platforms try to connect traditional investment products with decentralized facilities.
By presenting preOPAI as its first IPO Prime asset, Bitget is placing itself in the expanding market for blockchain based investment products related to technology corporations and late stage startup initiatives.
