Bitmain, a leading manufacturer of application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) for Bitcoin mining, has partnered with Merkle Standard
Partnership
Merkle Standard, a sustainable digital asset miner, and Bitmain, a pioneer in blockchain technology, announced the formation of a joint venture to produce up to 500 MW of clean digital mining infrastructure. When fully developed, the data center will be capable of hosting over 150,000 mining equipment. The joint venture will operate completely with Bitmain mining equipment, leveraging the company’s most advanced mining technology, and is projected to be one of the most efficient digital asset data centers in the world.
The initial phase of building of the data center has started at Merkle’s 225 MW farm in Eastern Washington, where the miner intends to install Bitmain’s S19J Pro, S19 XP, and S19+ Hydro bitcoin miners. The plant is planned to be fully operational in Q2 2022, and Merkle and Bitmain are exploring the possibility of expanding to different locations in the United States with an emphasis on sustainable mining.
Merkle Standard is no stranger to criticism, and its action mirrors a global trend of Bitcoin miners enhancing their ESG credentials. The Bitcoin Mining Council touted a 58.5 percent sustainable energy mix in the fourth quarter of 2021, while miners in Norway are even drying timber using waste heat.
