OUR FINAL RATING: 4.3/5
Quick Answer: Changelly is a legitimate instant crypto exchange that has operated since April 2015, and we found no report of a hack of its platform as of November 2, 2026. It charges a 0.25% fee on floating-rate swaps, lists more than 1,200 cryptocurrencies across 200 blockchains, and does not keep customer balances. The main risk is an AML/KYC hold: most swaps need no verification, but Changelly’s own help center says a flagged transaction can take weeks or even months to review. Changelly is not available to residents of the US, the UK and several other countries.
Today, we will be reviewing Changelly, a name many crypto users have probably already heard: this crypto exchange has been operating for more than 11 years, since April 2015. In terms of its basic features, it enables users to swap, buy and sell a wide range of digital assets quickly without holding funds on the platform, and also provides API tools for wallets and businesses.
This review draws on publicly available data, independent tests, and user feedback to help you decide whether Changelly is a scam or worth using. We first tested the service in 2025 and rechecked its fees, coin counts, terms and policies on November 2, 2026.
To broaden the research, we also considered information from Swapzone, an independent crypto services aggregator that brings together offers from 18+ exchange providers and lists more than 1,000 cryptocurrencies. By comparing offers and provider information across the market, Swapzone gives users a broader view of available services when evaluating a crypto exchange, rather than relying on information from a single provider. Its Partners section also provides dedicated provider pages with user feedback and service information. For Changelly, this includes a dedicated Changelly review page with reviews from users, as well as information about its KYC and AML requirements. On November 2, 2026, that page showed a score of 4.1 out of 5 based on 161 reviews.
Pros and Cons
To provide an informed and balanced assessment of the Changelly cryptocurrency exchange, we examined the platform from multiple angles. We explored both the web version of Changelly and its app to fully understand its features, usability, and overall performance first-hand. We also studied feedback from existing users to see how our observations compared with the wider community’s experience. All insights shared here are based on this combined research and on publicly available information from Changelly’s official website, app stores, and other review platforms.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 0.25% service fee on floating-rate crypto swaps, low compared to many competitors. | Doesn’t support all fiat currencies (cards in other currencies can still be charged in USD or EUR, with your bank’s conversion fee). |
| Easy-to-use interface, available on both web and mobile. | All fiat transactions are processed by third-party providers, which usually ask you to pass their own KYC. |
| 1,200+ coins on 200 blockchains for swaps and 900+ for direct purchase, according to Changelly. | Not available in restricted locations including the US, the UK, Germany, Austria, Japan, India and Turkey. (For the full list, see Changelly’s Terms of Use.) |
| No account registration is required for basic swaps, and Changelly says 99% of exchanges need no verification. | Rates for fiat purchases are higher because of provider fees, which Changelly says start at about 4%. |
| 24/7 live chat support; in our tests a human agent answered within seconds. | The main Changelly service is not a full trading platform with order books (that is Changelly PRO, a separate exchange). |
| Easy to use, even for complete beginners. | No public license information. Changelly’s own Terms of Use indicate that swaps and purchases are executed via third-party providers, with the platform acting as an intermediary/aggregator (ToU, 2.2). |
| Various integrations, including ones with top crypto wallets such as Ledger and Trezor. | KYC/AML checks can be triggered for larger or flagged transactions, and Changelly says some reviews take weeks or months. |
| Fast processing: Changelly quotes 5 to 40 minutes, and our test swaps settled in under 10 minutes. |
Key Features: An Overview
Even if you’re completely new to crypto, you’ve probably come across Changelly. It powers swaps inside wallets such as Ledger and Trezor (see our Ledger review and Trezor review), and, as the company itself claims, now has 840+ partners worldwide. You can try out swaps, purchases, and other features Changelly offers directly on their official website or app.

Rather than acting as a trading terminal, Changelly functions as an aggregator. That means it sources offers from multiple liquidity providers in one interface so users can view rates side by side and select their preferred option. The service is available on Changelly’s website and mobile app. Here are its key features as of November 2026:
- Swaps: 1,200+ cryptocurrencies across 200 blockchains, according to Changelly’s about page. Floating and fixed rates available.
- Purchases: 900+ coins to buy with cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank transfers, including SEPA. Changelly’s fiat pages cite 100+ fiat currencies, and the providers named on its pages include MoonPay, Banxa, Simplex, Transak, Wert, Switchere and, in the European Economic Area, Revolut Ramp.
- Transaction limits: Changelly says floating-rate swaps of liquid pairs such as BTC/ETH allow almost unlimited amounts, while fixed-rate swaps have lower limits. The minimum must cover the network fee. Fiat minimums depend on the provider, from about $5 with Wert to $50 with Simplex, according to crypto.news (September 2026).
- Pricing: 0.25% service fee for floating-rate crypto-to-crypto swaps, already included in the quoted rate. Fixed-rate swaps include a dynamic fee, and fiat purchases include provider fees that vary by payment method and other factors. Users can compare rates from different providers.
- Security: Changelly does not hold customer balances, offers 2FA through Google Authenticator for accounts, and runs automated transaction monitoring. (Don’t worry, we’ll look at Changelly’s KYC/AML policy in more detail later.)
- Localization: Changelly says its app is available in 12 languages, and its support team is multi-lingual, too.
- Other products: Changelly PRO (an order-book exchange), Changelly PAY for crypto payments, a DeFi swap, and exchange and fiat APIs for businesses.
Changelly Fees in 2026
Changelly charges a 0.25% service fee on floating-rate swaps, taken from the amount you receive, plus the blockchain network fee. Its help center says all fees are already included in the rate it shows, so the “You get” amount is what matters. These are the main fee rules as of November 2, 2026:
| Fee type | What Changelly says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Floating-rate swap | 0.25% of the output amount; the final amount can move with the market until the swap completes | Terms of Use, clause 3.1.1.1 |
| Fixed-rate swap | A dynamic fee built into a rate locked for 15 or 20 minutes; no percentage is published | Terms of Use, clause 2.7; Changelly FAQ |
| Network fee | Charged by the blockchain, shown as an estimate, and the final amount can differ | Terms of Use, clause 3.1.2 |
| Buying crypto with fiat | Set by each provider; Changelly’s own guide says fees start at about 4% | Changelly blog, July 2024 |
| Selling crypto for fiat | Minimum fee of 3.95%, depending on the currency pair and your country | Changelly FAQ |
Floating vs fixed rate. A floating rate usually gives the better price because it carries only the 0.25% fee, but the amount you receive can change while your deposit confirms. A fixed rate guarantees the amount for 15 or 20 minutes, and Changelly prices that guarantee with an extra dynamic fee, so fixed quotes are generally a little lower. Changelly does not publish a typical spread for fixed rates, so compare the final amounts side by side before you send funds.
Refunds. If a floating-rate swap cannot be completed, Changelly says refunds usually take 1 to 7 business days, minus applicable fees. Refunds for a fixed-rate swap that cannot be executed can take up to 20 business days.
Swaps inside partner wallets. When you use Changelly through a wallet or another app, the fee can differ from 0.25%, because Changelly’s Terms of Use say rates differ for API partners and partners can add their own fee.
Changelly’s Background
Changelly launched in April 2015 with support for 30 cryptocurrencies, according to its about page. Industry profiles name Konstantin Gladych as its founder. However, his name isn’t mentioned anywhere in official sources. The platform’s official website lists the names of its key team members, including its heads of product, partnerships, research, marketing and business development, and Konstantin is not among them. The site does not name a chief executive.
Changelly’s Terms of Use (last updated in December 2024) say the services are operated by Marella and its affiliates, and that disputes are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Its iOS and Android apps are published by Marella LLC, whose developer address on Google Play is in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Changelly does not publish a license number for its swap service. In April 2026, Québec’s financial regulator, the AMF, added Changelly Pro (corporate name Alqentra LLC) to its investor warnings as an entity not registered to solicit investors in Québec, according to IOSCO’s I-SCAN database. Key figures, as stated by Changelly on November 2, 2026, include:
- 12+ million registered users worldwide (it reported passing 10 million at its 10-year anniversary in 2025)
- More than 11 years on the crypto market
- 840+ partners
- 1,200+ cryptocurrencies listed across 200 blockchains
Is Changelly Available in the US and UK?
No. Changelly’s Terms of Use (clause 5.1.3) do not allow users who are located in, or are nationals or residents of, the United States (including all territories) or the United Kingdom. The same clause lists Afghanistan, Austria, Bangladesh, Crimea, Cuba, the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, North Korea, Syria, Turkey, Venezuela and Yemen, plus any jurisdiction where using the service would break local law. Changelly also says it may restrict any other location at its discretion.
Users outside these locations, including most of the European Economic Area, can use the service. Users must be at least 16 years old or of legal age in their jurisdiction.
User Experience
So, what’s it like to actually use Changelly? From our experience, it’s not too different from the average instant exchange platform of its type. What sets it apart is that you don’t need to create an account on Changelly itself: in the app you can just go ahead and start swapping without any delay, and your history is stored on your device. Fiat purchases are different, because the provider you choose will usually ask for verification.

During our testing, we’ve had no issues navigating through Changelly’s website or its app. Out of curiosity, we did create an account: it only took a few minutes, a completely standard procedure. Having an account gives you access to a transaction history and easier contact with support, with no other hidden perks or benefits.
Swapping crypto on Changelly is just as straightforward. You enter the amounts, enter your wallet address, and confirm. Quotes for floating or fixed rates appear instantly and our swaps went through without any hiccups. Small crypto-to-crypto exchanges were almost immediate, and even larger ones settled in under ten minutes on average. Changelly itself quotes 5 to 40 minutes for most swaps, depending on network congestion.

We also poked at customer support to see how responsive it really is. Opening a live chat from the app connected us to a real person within a couple of seconds, and their answers were clear and helpful. In the app stores, the Changelly app was rated 4.6 out of 5 on the App Store (about 6,400 ratings) and 4.6 on Google Play (about 22,000 reviews, more than 1 million downloads) on November 2, 2026.
Is Changelly Safe? A Look at Changelly’s Security, KYC & AML Policy
Changelly is safe to use for its main purpose, quick swaps, provided you accept its compliance checks. Its Terms of Use say it does not provide custodial services and does not store your crypto on deposits or balances: you send coins to a one-time deposit address and receive the other asset in your own wallet. This design reduces the impact of a potential security breach, and as of November 2, 2026 we found no public report of a hack of Changelly’s platform. In terms of user reception, it holds high ratings in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Since users don’t need to store funds on the platform, the risk from a breach is much lower than on a custodial exchange. However, your coins are in Changelly’s hands while a swap is processing, which is when an AML hold can happen. If you create an account, you can protect it with 2FA through Google Authenticator.
Does Changelly Require KYC?
Not for most swaps. Changelly’s help center says it does not ask for verification in 99% of exchange cases, but any transaction can be put on hold if its automated risk-scoring system flags it.
According to an FAQ on their official subreddit, Changelly itself does not manually request verification. Instead, an automated risk-scoring system flags certain transactions and triggers KYC only when activity looks suspicious: for example, if it detects coins linked to hacks, unusual patterns or destinations, or very large amounts. Changelly’s official AML/KYC policy says the same: a transaction its risk scoring flags as suspicious “will be put on hold.”
Basic verification is handled by Sumsub. Changelly’s KYC guide says the selfie check takes 1 to 3 minutes, and its help center says verification usually takes no longer than 24 hours. Enhanced due diligence, which can include proof of the source of funds such as exchange records or bank statements, takes longer, and Changelly’s help center admits that checking transactions can sometimes take “several weeks or even months.”
According to Changelly, this policy is intended to limit money laundering and to help recover stolen assets, but it also means that legitimate users can be asked for documents unexpectedly. Some negative reviews online come from people whose transactions were frozen during these checks (with many of them, however, later amended as their cases were resolved and they got their money back).
In contrast, some dissatisfied users have turned out to be scammers engaging in money laundering. For example, while researching, we found this case from June 2025, where one such user was exposed by a well-known crypto vigilante, the on-chain investigator ZachXBT. While claiming to be a victim, it turned out he was moving stolen funds: ZachXBT wrote that he had reviewed the transaction, that the exchange “did nothing wrong”, and that the user had tried to move funds from a theft.
A similar case followed in June 2026. A user said Changelly had held about 5.73 BTC (about $475,000, by the user’s own estimate) under AML review since March 2025. ZachXBT traced the coins to an alleged fraud network targeting elderly Americans and described the user as a suspected money mule, according to reports by Crypto Economy and KuCoin News on June 19, 2026. Changelly had not commented publicly on that case. We’ve encountered similar cases while reviewing other platforms in the past, and are now suspicious in general when we see people claiming to have lost large sums without providing any transaction IDs. That said, not every held transaction involves illicit funds, so keep your records ready.
Overall, Changelly’s risk-based AML/KYC framework is in line with what regulators expect from crypto services and what other instant exchanges do. It adds a layer of friction but also strengthens safety for compliant users.
Changelly News in 2025 and 2026
- January 2025: Changelly added Revolut Ramp as a payment provider for users in the European Economic Area (not the UK), with a $12 minimum and a $125,000 monthly limit, according to Finance Magnates.
- Early 2025: Changelly announced it had reached 1,000 listed cryptocurrencies.
- 2025: Changelly marked its 10-year anniversary and reported passing 10 million users.
- April 2026: Québec’s AMF listed Changelly Pro in its investor warnings as not registered in Québec.
- June 2026: ZachXBT linked a disputed 5.73 BTC hold at Changelly to alleged fraud proceeds (see the KYC section above).
- November 2026: Changelly lists 1,200+ cryptocurrencies across 200 blockchains, 840+ partners and 12+ million registered users, and promotes Changelly PAY, a crypto payments product, as new.
Is Changelly Legit or a Scam? Our Final Verdict
No, Changelly is not a scam. It has been operating for more than eleven years, partners with major wallets and payment providers, and, unlike centralized exchanges, does not hold user balances. We found no report of a hack of its platform, and its app is rated 4.6 out of 5 on both the App Store and Google Play.
Changelly is best suited for users who want quick, one-off swaps or fiat purchases without opening a full exchange account, and for businesses or wallets looking to embed crypto swaps via API. It’s less ideal for active traders who need order books, advanced tools or consistently low fiat on-ramp fees, and it is not an option for residents of the US, the UK and the other restricted locations.
Final score: 4.3/5. A long-standing aggregator with wide asset coverage and responsive support, but with occasional KYC friction, AML holds that can last a long time, and third-party fiat fees.
How to Use Changelly to Exchange Crypto: A Brief Guide
Step 1. Set up your exchange by selecting the crypto pair and entering the amount you want to swap. Choose a floating or fixed rate.

Step 2. Enter your crypto wallet address. Then, review your transaction details and proceed to payment.

Step 3. Send the correct amount of crypto to the provided crypto wallet address. Make sure to send out the crypto ASAP, as these exchange wallet addresses can expire, and a fixed rate is only locked for 15 or 20 minutes.

Bonus: Tips For Staying Safe When Using Crypto Exchanges
- Break up large transfers. If possible, avoid moving very large amounts of crypto in a single transaction. Send a small test transfer first to confirm the address and network.
- Enable 2FA everywhere. Turn on two-factor authentication on your exchange accounts and your email.
- Use your own wallet. Keep long-term holdings in a wallet you control rather than leaving them with any service. Our crypto wallet reviews compare the main hardware options.
- Double-check URLs and providers. Only access exchanges through official links or apps to avoid phishing, and learn how to spot fake crypto news and rumors used in scams.
- Understand KYC triggers. Large or unusual transactions may require verification. Be prepared with up-to-date documents and records that show where your funds came from.
Our Methodology
We use a clear, structured approach to review cryptocurrency exchanges. Each platform is assessed across several weighted categories, combining first-hand testing with independent research.
Security & Trustworthiness (35%)
Security is our top priority when evaluating any exchange. We examine how platforms protect user data and transactions, whether they hold customer funds, and what safeguards are in place to prevent hacks or fraud. We also research any past breaches, regulatory actions, or unresolved complaints.
Supported Assets, Payment Options & Tools (30%)
Breadth and depth matter. We look at how many cryptocurrencies and blockchains are supported, what fiat currencies and payment methods are available, and what built-in tools or integrations are offered (such as analytics, alerts, API access, or wallet connections). We also test how these features work in real scenarios.
Pricing & Fees (20%)
We evaluate service fees, spreads, and charges from third-party providers, comparing quoted rates with the rates actually executed in test transactions to ensure transparency and competitiveness.
Reputation, User Experience & Feedback (15%)
Finally, we combine usability testing with community sentiment. We assess how intuitive the platform is on both web and mobile, how responsive its support is, and what recurring themes appear in reviews on Reddit, Trustpilot, app stores, and other channels. This helps us validate our findings against real-world user experiences.
