The attachment of a celebrity’s name to a business venture is often a wise move, and the world of cryptocurrency is catching on. While not all end well, such as the recent example of DJ Khaled and Floyd Mayweather endorsing an ICO hat turned out to be a scam.
The latest cryptocurrency project to attach a celebrity’s name to it is TaTaTu which has partnered up with movie star Johnny Depp. Unlike the earlier incident with DJ Khaled and Floyd Mayweather, this venture appears to be a fully legitimate one, raising over $550 million in a private ICO in the summer of 2018.
TaTaTu
TaTaTu is a crypto-centric social entertainment platform which pays its creators using tokens.
Tokens can be traded for fiat or cryptocurrencies on the Liquid Network and thus, gives an incentive for creators.
This mirrors a similar approach taken by Wikipedia’s management in their new venture Expedia which is also compensating their creators.
TaTaTtu is currently managed by managed by Andrea Iervolino.
Current Projects
Bringing Johnny Depp onboard isn’t the only thing TaTaTu has done in recent times.
They have majorly been focused on creating new content and are currently working on a biopic on Lamborghini that stars Antonio Banderas and Alec Baldwin as well as acquiring rights to a documentary on William Friedkin the director of film classics like The French Connection and The Exorcist.
In the case of Depp, his partnership will require that he create content with Andrea Iervolino. Iervolino will be bringing content through his AMBI Media Group while Johnny Depp will work through his Infinitum Nihil production company.
The two will collaborate on Waiting for the Barbarians, a film that stars Johnny Depp and will be produced by AMBI.
While details of how much content will be produced by each party haven’t been released yet, having a movie star on Depp’s level attached to the project will grant it some much-needed exposure.
With time, a celebrity endorsing a cryptocurrency project could be as commonplace as a celebrity having their own clothing line.
