Decent Land Labs has announced the launch of the WeaveVM V0.1.0 Testnet, unlocking a new primitive for on-chain storage. WeaveVM is a highly scalable EVM network designed to address major challenges in the blockchain space, including reducing storage costs and enhancing data availability.
Addressing Key Challenges in Blockchain Storage
Despite recent advancements like EIP-4444, which proposed purging old history to save storage, there has been no native storage-focused EVM layer that offers both speed and affordability—until now. Existing solutions often compromise on either cost or data permanence. WeaveVM fills these critical gaps by providing an on-chain storage and data availability solution that is both efficient and cost-effective, offering storage at $0.05 per megabyte—15 times cheaper than leading projects like Celestia.
Built for High Performance and Flexibility
WeaveVM is built on a modified version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine, offering significant improvements in data storage and processing speed. The architecture supports parallel execution, allowing the network to handle one gigagas per second, process up to 48,000 transactions per second (TPS), and achieve data throughput exceeding 125 MB/s. These capabilities make WeaveVM an ideal platform for data-intensive decentralised applications (dApps) that require reliable on-chain storage without the usual prohibitive costs.
Innovative Approach to Storage and Data Availability
WeaveVM exposes a new storage primitive to EVM chains. Until now, storing large amounts of data on these networks has been prohibitively expensive and inefficient, limiting the types of decentralised applications (dApps) that could be built. Using Arweave as a decentralised hard drive for permanent data storage, WeaveVM removes these barriers, enabling developers to create more data-intensive dApps without the costs and storage capacity limitations of the EVM.
The WeaveVM Alphanet architecture incorporates advanced features such as ExExes (Execution Extensions) for optimised data handling, centralised block production for enhanced throughput, and high-throughput data availability (DA) facilitated by the AO network layer. ExExes are particularly crucial, as they manage bi-directional data writing to Arweave, block serialisation using Borsh, and compression with Brotli, which significantly enhances data efficiency and reduces costs.
Enabling Projects with Seamless Archival Solutions
The flexibility and scalability of WeaveVM have made it an attractive choice for solid projects like Metis, GOAT.Network, RSS3, and Kyve. These projects are currently utilising WeaveVM’s Archiver, an ETL archive pipeline for EVM networks, to ensure permanent availability of onchain data. The WeaveVM Archiver allows them to interface with WeaveVM’s permanent data settlement and high-throughput data availability (DA) without the need for smart contract redeployments or extensive codebase changes. These early adopters highlight WeaveVM’s potential as a versatile platform for developers building the next generation of dApps.
