With 2017 being a year to remember and 2018 being one to forget, 2019 was guaranteed to be a pivotal year for cryptocurrencies and corresponding conferences. The bear market was at its tail end with cryptocurrencies having collapsed more than 90 percent in some instances. Would people be attending crypto, blockchain, and bitcoin conferences in the near future?
Bitcoin’s halving will take place in May of 2020 making 2019 seem like the year of the bull, not bear. Summer of 2019 has some of the most exciting conferences scattered throughout its months. A few have already passed, meeting or beating expectations, with many more on the horizon.
This article will highlight upcoming conferences that may be worth your attendance:
Coinsbank Blockchain Cruise (June 9 – 13)
The Blockchain Cruise from 2018 had some wild stories. I was not in attendance but if partying and rubbing shoulders with your favorite crypto celebrities is your idea of a great few days, this one should not be missed.
The 2019 lineup is exciting although it does lack some of the big name “influencers” that many conferences seek to have present. John McAfee will be in attendance along with Tone Vays and many other members of governments (Bahamas), Forbes, and IBM.
Not quite sure there would be a better way to spend four days than seeing: Barcelona, Mallorca, Marseille, Pisa, and Rome. Plus, I heard that was a reward for whoever could out drink John McAfee.
If the middle of June is currently free, a cruise through the Mediterranean with some of the biggest names in the blockchain world be a very interesting way to spend the 4 days. The Coinsbank Blockchain Cruise has a history of epic stories. Will 2019 be as exciting as 2018? Time will tell.
UNCHAIN Bitcoin & Blockchain Convention (June 14-15)
Taking place in Berlin from June 14-15, UNCHAIN is another conference worth considering. Headliners include Brock Pierce, Tone Vays, and Hartej Sawhney. Although smaller than many of the other conferences, UNCHAIN is known for having dedicated members of the blockchain community.
Some conferences look to inflate numbers and force attendance to those not interested in crypto or blockchain. This makes UNCHAIN very unique as their attendees are not only crypto enthusiasts but blockchain experts. If you want a conference dedicated to blockchain technology where you are unlikely to see all the ‘scam’ booths, this is it.
I am excited to be attending UNCHAIN due to their more ‘advanced’ blockchain attendees and speakers. Berlin is also one of the biggest blockchain hubs in Europe and it will be exciting to explore a city so ready to adopt blockchain and crypto infrastructure.
History does not support those that oppose technological advancement and Berlin is one of the city’s pushing for its adoption. UNCHAIN should be a fantastic conference located in Berlin, one of the most historically significant cities in Europe, ready to embrace their blockchain future.
Blockchain Expo Europe (June 19-20)
Hosting more than 10,000 attendees Blockchain Expo Europe is one of the world’s largest crypto conferences. This conference is unique for its number of attendees but also for its method of hosting.
Tickets are provided for free to the expo hall and “Free Stage” if users sign up in advance. Most conferences cost a few hundred to a few thousand to attend. This generally includes some lavish meals and before/after networking events. Blockchain Expo is unique in that it provides attendees a “no frills” pass for free. This encourages attendance without forcing significant expenses to the attendees.
The speakers include members of Hyperledger, Nasdaq, CITI, BBVA, Maersk, Volkswagen AG, and many more. With an impressive speaker list, a free expo hall, and a destination that is not to be missed it seems like Blockchain Expo Europe may be one of the must-attend conferences this summer.
Conclusion
This article highlighted conferences predominantly taking place in Europe this summer. There are many that are taking place in North America and Asia toward the end of summer that may be of interest to many readers.
Those specific conferences will be highlighted in the next conference list analyzing those taking place in July/August.
For those that wish to know more and read recaps about prior conferences at NYC Blockchain Week and Malta AI & Blockchain Summit, those articles will be released shortly.
