Fission, a blockchain-enabled financial technology company building liquidity infrastructure for tokenized investment funds, has closed a $10 million Series A led by Pantera Capital, according to a company announcement published October 15.
The round adds Circle Ventures, New Form, gumi Cryptos Capital, Borderless Capital and Ari Rubenstein, CEO of trading firm GTS, to Fission’s investor base. They join existing backers including Anthony Scaramucci, Manhattan Venture Partners, Reflexive Capital and Lattice Capital.
Closing the Liquidity Gap in Tokenized Funds
Investment funds are moving on-chain, but much of the surrounding market structure has not changed. Tokenized funds still rely on periodic redemption windows, limited secondary liquidity and restrictive financing structures, which can leave eligible holders facing long settlement and redemption cycles.
Fission’s platform is designed to change that by giving eligible holders access to capital without waiting for traditional fund redemption cycles. The company supports a growing universe of tokenized funds across private credit, alternatives and other institutional products, and said it has already processed millions of dollars in transactions. Its team draws on experience from Point72 and Securitize, spanning institutional trading, private-market distribution and tokenization.
Who Backed the Round
Pantera Capital, the institutional blockchain investment firm, led the Series A. “Investment funds are moving onto digital rails and liquidity is one of the critical pieces required for that transition to reach its full potential,” said Franklin Bi, general partner at Pantera Capital.
Fission founder and CEO Jonathan Shaffer described tokenization as the start of a broader market shift. “Putting funds on-chain is only the beginning,” he said. “The real promise of tokenization is creating fundamentally better markets around these assets: broader distribution, continuous liquidity and the ability to use fund interests as collateral in lending markets.”
Why It Matters for Tokenization
The funding arrives as tokenized real-world assets become a faster-growing frontier in institutional finance, a shift highlighted by moves like Securitize bringing U.S. equities on-chain. Fission is targeting the bottleneck that has kept many funds from realizing tokenization’s promised benefits: liquidity. The new capital will expand its asset coverage, liquidity capacity and institutional integrations, with broader implications for how tokenized securities are held and traded.
Fission did not disclose a valuation or a specific timeline for the rollout.
