In a bid to allow its football fans to play more active roles in its decision-making process, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a leading soccer club in France, has inked a strategic partnership deal with Socios, football fans tokenized voting platform, according to a Finance Magnates report on September 11, 2018.
PSG Joins Forces with Socios Blockchain Platform
Per sources close to the matter, popular French Ligue 1 football club, Paris Saint Germain has inked a “multi-year” partnership deal with Malta-based distributed ledger technology (DLT) startup, Socios.com.
Socios claims to be a blockchain-powered fan marketplace and tokenization platform for sports teams. The chiliZ token powers the platform.
According to a Finextra report, the deal has now made Socios.com the official cryptocurrency partner of PSG and the platform will now work with the football club to formulate a DLT-based fan management system.
Socios.com will also assist Paris Saint-Germain in developing the world’s first Fan Token Offering (FTO). The PSG fan token which will be listed on the Socios platform will make it easier for fans to engage with the club seamlessly via mobile voting systems.
That’s not all; the token will also present holders with exclusive fan rewards, experiences and other exciting giveaways.
Crypto-Voting Coming Soon
Marc Armstrong, Chief Partnership Officer of Paris Saint-Germain, has made it clear that the club is looking to leverage the excellent potentials of blockchain technology and digital assets to better engage with its fan base.
“Paris Saint-Germain is determined to leverage the opportunities that cryptocurrency can provide,” said Armstrong, adding “This revolutionary technology will have an important impact on the Club’s overall business strategy and the way we engage with our fan base.”
Founded in August 1970, Paris Saint-Germain is the most successful football club in France though it is yet to win the most coveted trophy in world club football, the UEFA Champions League.
PSG currently sits at 11th position on the Forbes top 20 list of the world’s most valuable football clubs and is home to some of the biggest stars in the beautiful game, including Neymar Junior, Kylian Mbappe and others.
While the finance ecosystem has been most disrupted by the blockchain and crypto revolution, with several firms adopting the burgeoning technology, the football world is also catching the cryptoassets fever.
