With new functionality, GetBlock customers will use access tokens to authorize their connection to blockchain nodes
BELGRADE, October 19, 2023 – GetBlock, a leading RPC node-as-a-service provider, starts migration to novel authentication mechanism. This upgrade is a largest rewrite of the platform’s security layer in 2023 set to advance its safety, usability and robustness.
GetBlock node provider migrates to access tokens
Team of GetBlock, a cryptocurrency node provider, announces the deployment of access tokens. This authentication mechanism paves the way for better privacy and customizability of API connection.
Starting from October 24, 2023, users will get unified encrypted access tokens as the instruments to utilize certain node resources. Access tokens will replace API keys that were in usage since the inception of GetBlock in 2019.
The upgrade was prepared with security and functionality in mind. Access tokens should be referred to as universal, modular, and attack-resistant identification tools. Once a user claims them, he or she can easily manage his or her account on GetBlock, and get advanced statistics.
In terms of security, access token launch reduces attack surface and streamlines mitigating the effects of hypothetical token leaks. For instance, potential attackers would get less information about APIs used by this or that dApps.
Customers should manually update their connections
GetBlock CEO and co-founder Arseniy Voitenko highlights the lethal importance of this upgrade for security and performance of the platform’s services:
In Q4, 2023, after OpenSea and Nansen API leaks – let alone the devastating 2022 hacks -, the role of security in blockchain APIs can hardly be overestimated. Here’s why the team decided to enhance the authentication system by the introduction of access tokens. This is a major milestone for our ambitious scaling roadmap
All users of GetBlock should manually claim new access tokens in their accounts. Old API keys will be deprecated by February 1, 2024.
The activation of access tokens only takes a few minutes; the GetBlock team published a manual in users’ dashboards and invited all Web3 enthusiasts to join the official demonstration of the new upgrade. The demo is set to happen on October 25, 2023 on GetBlock’s main YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tklOrP930Qc .
ABOUT GETBLOCK
Launched in Q4, 2019, GetBlock is one of the largest blockchain infrastructure providers. It offers RPC nodes of 50+ blockchains including the likes of Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain and L2 networks zkSync, Optimism and Arbitrum.
With GetBlock, teams of crypto applications don’t need to run their own blockchain nodes: instead, they can get connected to blockchains via ready-made endpoints. GetBlock offers free and paid packages to cater to the needs of its customers. In August, 2023, GetBlock scored World Future Award 2023 for its Web3 breakthroughs.
