EIP
EIP stands for Ethereum Improvement Proposal. It is a formal document that outlines new features or improvements to the Ethereum network. EIPs can propose changes to the blockchain’s protocol, governance, or standards, and they play a crucial role in the development of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Types of EIPs
- Standard Track EIPs: These propose changes that affect Ethereum’s core protocol, such as new features, or adjustments to existing rules.
- Meta EIPs: These deal with processes, governance, or other non-technical matters related to Ethereum.
- Informational EIPs: These provide guidelines or descriptions of existing processes or practices but do not propose new features or changes.
The EIP Process
Once an EIP is proposed, it undergoes community discussion, review, and sometimes modification before it is accepted or rejected. If accepted, the changes are implemented into the Ethereum network through a software upgrade.
EIPs and Ethereum’s Evolution
EIPs have been instrumental in shaping the Ethereum blockchain, enabling continuous improvements. Major updates, such as Ethereum 2.0, have been driven by EIPs, ensuring that the network evolves to meet the demands of its users.
