Proof of Importance (PoI)
Proof of Importance (PoI) is a consensus mechanism that rewards active and meaningful participation in a blockchain network, not just wealth or computing power.
How PoI Works
Instead of focusing solely on token holdings like Proof of Stake, PoI also considers a user’s transaction activity and network engagement. Factors like how often you transact, who you interact with, and your stake in the network all influence your “importance score.” Nodes with higher scores have a greater chance to validate blocks and earn rewards.
Why PoI Stands Out
PoI aims to promote a healthier and more engaged ecosystem by encouraging users to actively contribute to the network. It was first introduced by the NEM blockchain as a way to prevent centralization and incentivize real use over passive holding. By blending financial stake with behavior, PoI creates a more balanced and community-driven consensus.
