Token
A Token is a digital unit of value issued on a blockchain, representing assets, rights, or utilities within a specific ecosystem.
What Tokens Represent
Tokens can serve many purposes. Some act as currencies, others represent ownership in a project, grant access to services, or function as governance tools. Unlike coins (which are native to a blockchain like BTC or ETH), tokens are usually built on top of existing blockchains, most commonly Ethereum using standards like ERC-20 or ERC-721.
Why Tokens Are Important
Tokens are essential to the crypto economy. They enable decentralized finance (DeFi), power decentralized apps (dApps), and fuel ecosystems by aligning incentives. Their versatility allows for everything from fundraising via ICOs to creating tradable in-game assets or community governance systems.
