Justin Sun is stepping down from CEO of the Tron Foundation and joining the government of Grenada as its new full-time ambassador to WTO.
Justin said that it would be an honour to serve as the WTO ambassador for Grenada. He also added that looking forward to the opportunity to “represent Grenada and work with WTO leadership to reinvigorate global trade in various ways, particularly the development of a robust digital economy internationally”. The decision, he says, was inspired by El Salvador’s success in adopting Bitcoin as legal tender.
Specifically, the tech entrepreneur has been appointed a Geneva-based Ambassador of Grenada to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Sun will now relinquish some of his power on the Tron blockchain as he pursues blockchain and crypto promotion in Caribbean countries such as Grenada and The Bahamas. He did not discuss the fact that he remains the network’s figurehead and one of its largest token holders. However, he did say that he will continue to promote the Tron brand.
“It is a true honor to serve as the WTO ambassador for Grenada,” said Sun in a statement shared with Decrypt. “I look forward to the opportunity to represent Grenada and work with WTO leadership to reinvigorate global trade in various ways, particularly the development of a robust digital economy internationally.”
“Sun’s expertise in the blockchain industry will likely breeze some much-needed fresh air into the regional economy, as Grenada and CARICOM [the Caribbean Community] are among the hardest hit by a Covid-led tourism industry shutdown,” the press release read.
Tron is a layer-1 blockchain often classified as an Ethereum killer due to its position in the DeFi economy and network capabilities. However, Sun hasn’t specified the fate of his influence within the network and his large accumulation of Tron native tokens.
Already, congratulatory messages are pouring in for the crypto entrepreneur, including from Yearn Finance’s Andre Cronje and Three Arrows Capital CEO Zhu Su. Justin Sun expresses his belief that Tron is fully decentralized in his open letter, hence the recent decision.
