MSU 2.0 to unveil IP expansion strategy, featuring AI creation tools and a unified on-chain content hub.
MapleStory N marks its first anniversary with major gameplay milestones, sustained ecosystem growth, and new updates to deepen player engagement.
MapleStory Universe (MSU) is the blockchain-powered expansion of Nexon’s iconic MapleStory franchise. Today it marks its first anniversary since MapleStory N launched on May 15, 2025.
Over the past year, the platform has hit two big numbers:
- More than 150 million total on-chain transactions
- Over 3.82 million registered accounts
These figures show steady activity from players around the world and ongoing growth of the ecosystem.
One year in, MSU is entering its next phase with MSU 2.0. This expansion aims to change how intellectual property (IP), builders, and players interact in a shared digital world. It is backed by AI creation tools and on-chain infrastructure.
MSU 2.0 will roll out across 2026 to 2027. New features for builders will be built and released step by step.
A Benchmark Launch That Set a New Standard
MSU launched in May 2025 as one of the largest debuts in Web3 gaming. It is built on the MapleStory IP.
Its pre-launch Scroll NFT campaign saw about 1.7 million scrolls minted. This was officially confirmed as the largest NFT mint in Avalanche network history.
On launch day, weekly active addresses linked to MSU on the Avalanche network jumped by 549 percent. This showed strong user interest and excitement about the release.
Since launch, the marketplace has kept up its strong performance. On average, more than 446,716 buyers and sellers trade each day.
To date, MSU has accounted for 23.3% of all activity on the Avalanche network. That is a large share of activity across leading chains. MSU’s native NXPC token was also listed on seven major exchanges at launch, including Binance, Bybit, Upbit, and Bithumb. Readers can also see our report on the Nexpace ecosystem fund of up to $50 million for MSU.
Sunyoung Hwang, CEO, Nexpace, said: “What began as one of the largest launches in Web3 gaming has developed into a platform built for long-term participation. In the past year, we focused on building the infrastructure and discipline required to support our community over the long term.
Ever since then, MSU has evolved beyond a single game into infrastructure for creation, commerce, and participation. That shift defines what it means for an IP to become an economic system and a foundation for the next generation of online worlds.”
Introducing MSU 2.0, the Next Chapter for MapleStory Universe
MSU is now moving into its next phase with the rollout of MSU 2.0. This expansion aims to turn IPs from hard-to-use, abstract assets into programmable, on-chain commerce.
MSU 2.0 is built to widen participation across the ecosystem. It supports new ways to create, share, and sell content. It reflects how MapleStory Universe keeps growing from a single game into a platform that can scale.
Hwang added: “MSU 2.0 is the next phase of our growth journey. Our goal is to expand the role of IP from something people experience to something they can actively build with, share, and grow together, akin to an infinite IP playground. From here, our priority is to build the infrastructure that will support a larger and more connected IP ecosystem.”
VIBE IP: Two Pillars
At the core of MSU 2.0 is VIBE IP. It is a new tech stack built on two main pillars. Together they redefine what it means to build with IP on-chain.
- Pillar one, IP access: Builders get gameplay and behavior data from MapleStory N through dedicated APIs, in line with privacy laws. This turns IP from a brand asset into a living, data-rich base to build on.
- Pillar two, a builder economy: An on-chain builder economy runs on the Henesys chain, built on an Avalanche L1. It brings IP licensing, revenue settlement, and payments into a single system.
Blockchain infrastructure and AI-powered creation tools support both pillars. Blockchain makes licensing, payment and settlement smooth and fully on-chain. AI-powered “vibe coding” lets anyone turn an idea into a full-scale product. This opens up building and launching IP-driven content to more people.
This base sets up MSU to add more Nexon IPs over time. The aim is an AI-powered, on-chain IP multiverse. The VIBE IP tech stack will roll out in phases over the coming months.
MapleStory N One-Year Anniversary Update
MapleStory N is the flagship game of MSU. Over the past year, it has hit a series of milestones that show steady player engagement across the ecosystem.
The year-end winter update brought in more than 130,000 users. About three-quarters of them were new users.
This update also pushed in-game spending to its highest level since just after launch. Player spending was higher than the rewards paid out. This points to a more active and lasting in-game economy, driven by deeper engagement.
Building on this momentum, MapleStory N is now easier for mainstream players to pick up. Casual users can play it like any traditional MMORPG, with fewer blockchain hurdles. Web3 features have been refined to add real value while keeping gameplay smooth. This makes the platform easier for a wider audience to adopt.
What Comes in Year Two
As MapleStory N enters its second year, the team will release waves of in-game updates at a faster pace. These will expand gameplay and add new challenges.
A steady flow of major releases will support this through the year. They include the highly anticipated Black Mage update and other milestone content.
MSN will also add a new MVP system. It is designed to give ongoing benefits to dedicated players and keep them motivated to play.
Starting with the MVP system, MSN plans to keep growing the program with more varied criteria and rewards. This way, a wider range of players can be recognized and rewarded over time.
