NEAR Protocol has nearly doubled in seven days. It trades at $4.6259, up 4.43% on the day and 91.83% on the week, after spending the first half of September grinding between roughly $2.28 and $2.82. The move tested a local high near $4.45 before easing.

What is driving the NEAR rally?
Genuine volume growth in its cross-chain product, plus leverage and a short squeeze on top.
NEAR Intents is a chain abstraction system that lets users swap assets across more than 30 connected blockchains without manually bridging between them. Its cumulative transaction volume has reached $29.3 billion, with $842 million processed in the past week alone, and it recorded a record daily volume above $300 million on September 18. Chain-level activity and value locked are tracked on DefiLlama. For scale, the whole of July 2025 produced $406 million.
The protocol also activated limit orders for Intents, letting users set target prices for cross-chain swaps with confidential filling to prevent front-running and partial execution over a seven-day window.
The leverage arrived alongside. Open interest climbed to $1.29 billion, roughly double the $600 million level of early September and above the $850 million peak from late May. An 11.5% surge on September 21 triggered $8.88 million in short liquidations, and liquidation data is tracked at CoinGlass.
How much of the rally is real demand?
Less than the headline open-interest figure implies, and Santiment’s data separates the two cleanly.
NEAR gained approximately 81% between September 13 and 20. Over the same period, open interest denominated in dollars rose 119%, but open interest measured in NEAR tokens rose only 21%.
That gap is the useful part. Dollar-denominated open interest rises automatically when the token becomes more valuable, even if nobody opens a new position. The 21% increase in token-denominated terms is the real measure of new exposure, and it is a quarter of what the dollar figure suggests. Traders did add positions, but far fewer than the headline number implies.
This site applies the same logic to market capitalization and price: when a dollar-denominated measure grows much faster than the underlying quantity, the denominator is doing the work.
Why does Zcash matter to NEAR?
Because a portion of NEAR Intents’ locked value moves with the price of an asset sitting inside it.
Bitwise research analyst Camran Khosravi has described NEAR and Zcash as complements, with NEAR providing ZEC holders private cross-chain infrastructure alongside liquidity access. He also observed that NEAR Intents’ total value locked can grow when previously deposited ZEC appreciates, independent of fresh capital inflows.
That observation deserves more weight than it has received. Zcash is up 30.62% on the week at $1,493.17 and has gained roughly 192% since this site’s first assessment in July. If ZEC sitting in Intents rises by that much, the locked-value figure rises too, without a single new deposit.
There is real activity behind the relationship as well: Aurora Intents routed $19 million to a Zcash auction on September 21, processing more than half the volume of a ZEC-denominated NFT sale.
The boundary: both readings are true at once. Intents is handling genuine ZEC-related flow, and part of its headline TVL growth is price appreciation on assets already deposited. Anyone using TVL as a proxy for adoption should separate the two before drawing conclusions.
What are the risks?
Overbought momentum, leverage concentration, and a chart that is still 77% below its peak.
The daily relative strength index has been recorded above 83, well into overbought territory, with the weekly reading near 76. Rising open interest beside a rising price supports a trend while it lasts, and unwinds sharply when longs exit together.

What levels matter now?
$4.20 to $4.40 as near-term resistance, with $4 as the level analysts say must hold.
Support has been identified at $3.80 to $3.90, with the former breakout range at $3.30 to $3.50 beneath that. Analysts have flagged $5 as the next milestone if buying persists, roughly 8% above the current price.
Bottom line
NEAR rose 91.83% in a week on record Intents volume of $29.3 billion cumulatively, though token-denominated open interest grew only 21% against a 119% rise in dollar terms, and part of its locked value tracks the price of Zcash deposits rather than new capital.
The product growth is real and the numbers behind it are checkable. What is worth separating is how much of the headline expansion reflects new users arriving and how much reflects assets already inside becoming more valuable during a privacy-coin rally this site has been tracking since July. Both are happening. Only one of them is adoption.
