For crypto markets, Nvidia has become a proxy for something broader than chip sales. The latest fiscal Q2 2027 results sharpen the picture: AI compute demand is still expanding fast enough to absorb both record shipments and a hard exclusion of China data center compute revenue. According to the original report, revenue landed at $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year and above the $92.2 billion consensus estimate.
The narrower data center segment grew even faster. It generated $89.0 billion, a 117% increase that beat the $85.8 billion estimate. Non-GAAP diluted EPS came in at $2.22 versus the $2.10 consensus, while non-GAAP gross margin held at 75.0%, exactly in line with expectations. NVIDIA also returned about $26.0 billion to shareholders through share repurchases and cash dividends during the quarter.
Guidance is where the story gets more complicated. NVIDIA set fiscal Q3 revenue at $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, above the $104.2 billion consensus estimate. The company said that outlook assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China. That is not the same as saying Chinese demand has disappeared; it means the official forecast now removes a line of business that was once large enough to move the top line on its own.
The China exclusion has already been priced differently by crypto
Crypto traders have lived through export controls before. In previous cycles, restrictions on mining hardware and advanced chips reshaped where miners could operate and what equipment was available at what price. This NVIDIA report is a reminder that the AI supply chain carries a similar geopolitical variable. The difference now is that AI infrastructure is not limited to a handful of centralized data center operators; decentralized compute networks and Web3 AI projects are bidding for the same GPU capacity.
Some of those projects are explicitly building alternatives to centralized GPU clouds. UXLINK and Origins Network, for example, have positioned decentralized computing as a way to run scalable AI-driven Web3 applications. That pitch becomes more relevant when the largest AI chipmaker formally removes China data center compute from its outlook.
Why GPU demand is a crypto story
NVIDIA no longer has a meaningful consumer crypto mining business, but its chip supply still affects the broader compute market that AI token projects and decentralized physical infrastructure networks depend on. The data center segment’s 117% growth suggests enterprise AI buyers are absorbing enormous amounts of capacity. For smaller Web3 teams, that can translate into tighter capacity, higher prices, or a push toward less centralized compute sources.
