- New App pays users for their selfie
- The app will automatically give skincare advice based on your selfie
- In app purchases can be made with the company’s own cryptocurrency
Beauty products and crypto are two seemingly very different industries with no obvious connection . All that is about to change, however, as Opu Labs, a new skincare startup plans to merge the two in a new project that pays their participants in cryptocurrency.
How this will work is that Opu Labs will analyze the skin of participants and will pay them in OpuCoins for their services.
When making the announcement, the company described itself as “a mobile application that bridges skincare, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology into one ecosystem.”
Getting to the root
While this project is quite ambitious, it is also quite complex.
The app essentially helps users sort out their skincare problems. When users open the app, they upload a picture of themselves and Opu Lab then connects them with dermatologists that specialize in whatever skin issue they are suffering from. The app also recommends beauty brands and products for their problems.
The analysis of their skincare problems will be done by Opu Labs’ AI program. For uploading a selfie, users are given rewards in form of Opucoin, the firm’s own cryptocurrency.
Futuristic Beauty
The beauty industry, in the last few years, has become much more involved in the world of tech.
This can be attributed to the world as a whole becoming more advanced when it comes to technology. Facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, and blockchain technology are becoming a real part of everyday life and the beauty world is taking notice.
More innovative beauty-tech projects have come out in recent times such as smart mirrors, virtual beauty advice, and apps that let users ‘try on’ beauty products before they decide to make a purchase.
All these have served as a way to prepare the beauty market for the rise of cryptocurrency. Several brands such as R+Co have started accepting cryptocurrency as payment for selected products.
Making waves
Opu Labs has, so far, seen progress in getting a steady user base for its app. According to Opu Labs themselves, the app is being used in over 189 countries and has almost doubled its user base in the last few months.
The mere fact that an app such as Opu Labs’ is offering cryptocurrency as payment for users uploading their pictures only goes to show that cryptocurrency is solidifying its place in the world.
