- The PundiX team unveiled the XPhone at MWC19 Barcelona
- The mobile phone returns control of data back to users
- Users can enjoy dApps on the phone
According to an article published by the PundiX team on February 25, 2019, the blcockhain-POS focused project unveiled the world’s first decentralized phone, XPhone at MWC19 Barcelona. The phone makes use of blockchain technology for its OS and applications and could usher in a new era of smartphones.
Blockchain Making Smart Phones Smarter
Blockchain technology is often touted as a game-changer for many industries around the world, and it’s not hard to guess why.
The emerging tech has already found real use cases in industries like real estate, pharmacy, supply chain management, financial services, and intellectual property, among others. Now, it seems the budding tech is set to enter our mobile phones as well.
The XPhone, priced at $599 claims to value user’s privacy and data more than racing towards technological advancement like 5G, 6G or 7G.
The phone’s technical specifications have been largely upgraded from its prototype version unveiled at the XBlockchain Summit in Bali in October 2018. Interestingly enough, the PundiX team also gave a demo at the Summit of the world’s first phone call made over the blockchain.
The new phone also allows users to seamlessly switch to dApps with the push of a button. The post reads in part:
“Key to the rollout version of the XPhone showcased in Barcelona is the “X” button that allows users to switch to the dApps on the blockchain mode easily with just a press of the button.”
Complete Independence from Centralized Shackles of Power
What sets the XPhone apart from a normal smartphone is the fact that it gives users complete control over their data and privacy. The phone doesn’t just use the word blockchain for buzz, rather it actually utilizes the tech the way it is supposed to be.
Users of the phone have the option to route phone calls, messages, and data via blockchain modes without any aid from centralized service providers. In fact, the XPhone is the first ever mobile phone that runs completely on a decentralized environment powering telephony, messaging, and data transmission.
PundiX founder and CEO Zac Cheah said:
“Telecommunications and Internet companies have derived tremendous value from controlling data. By decentralizing apps, we can put this data onto a smart contract, effectively giving control back to creators and to users.”
