It’s shaping up to be a prolific summer of hackathons. This month alone will see a host of blockchain hackathon events that will bring together developers, investors, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem builders. These provide an opportunity for blockchain communities to exchange ideas and incubate the developer teams whose bold ideas will shape the next wave of dapps. Here are three highly anticipated hackathons to eye in July.
Fuse Summer 2024 Hackathon
Web3 payments blockchain Fuse is on a mission to showcase the many use cases its enterprise-oriented ecosystem supports. Its summer hackathon, hosted in conjunction with DoraHacks, provides the perfect occasion for seeing what Fuse is capable of. The event kicks off on July 15 and will run until August 4 before the winners are crowned at a ceremony on August 12.
$10,000 in prizes per winning entry are up for grabs, giving developers ample incentives to get involved. They can submit entries to three categories: DeFi, Mobile, and Open Track. Participants at the Fuse Summer 2024 Hackathon have two development options at their disposal. They can elect to create a web application using Fuse’s SDK or a mobile app using the Flutter SDK.
There’s also the potential for winning projects to be awarded a Fuse Ecosystem Grant from a $10M fund, providing the impetus to turn their concept into a working reality. There are also other perks available to entrants courtesy of Fuse partners including tooling provided by Etherspot, Ramp, Pimlico, and ThirdWeb. Throw in mentorship and ongoing support from Fuse and there’s a lot of developers to get their teeth into using the EVM-compatible chain.
Polkadot Open Hackathon
Polkadot’s blockchain ecosystem is so sprawling that it doesn’t limit itself to an annual hackathon. Instead, there are monthly events that ensure there are always opportunities available for developers and teams that know their Substrate. July’s Polkadot Open Hackathon, hosted by OpenGuild, enables blockchain devs to build their portfolio, acquire new skills, and learn from experts in all things Polkadot.
There’s a $2,500 bounty available with the July hackathon, disbursed in USDT, but the real value is in the experience participants will gain. It’s essentially an opportunity to get noticed and to turn ideas into working concepts. The two-week hackathon is open to developers, students, and blockchain enthusiasts and has a number of tracks dedicated to different aspects of the Polkadot ecosystem.
From developing new Substrate runtime modules to writing educational tutorials for Polkadot developers, there are a lot of ways to get involved. There are also some nice bonus tracks on offer such as a bounty for the project with the best UI/UX and another for the most innovative idea and practical solution. For those who like to think outside the box, Polkadot’s July hackathon ticks all the right boxes.
Peak Hackathon 2024
If you’ve got a head for heights, Peak Hackathon is the event for you. It runs from July 16-21 in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh – right in the heart of the Indian Himalayas. For delegates who have time to step away from their screens, the views should be breathtaking and the air rarified. But the event’s primary objective is to encourage participants to hit new heights in web3 and AI development.
More than 3,000 attendees have been confirmed for the event which combines a general conference with a hackathon known as BUIDLWeek. This will combine six days of technical presentations with a series of bounty-oriented workshops and mini-summits. Peak Hackathon is ideal for developers who aren’t already tied to a specific ecosystem and are more interested in exploring the broad possibilities offered by the convergence of web3 and AI.
There’s also a startup pitch competition that will allow builders to put their concepts to investors and receive the feedback and funding to realize them. In between the serious business of building, there’ll also be a chance to check out the sights of Dharamshala including the Dalai Lama Temple and Bhagsu Waterfall, while intrepid souls can experience paragliding at Bir Billing.
Blockchain hackathons unite individuals and teams to brainstorm, design, and develop projects with the added spice of competing for monetary prizes, recognition, and potential investment opportunities. Peak Hackathon, Polkadot Open Hackathon, and Fuse Summer 2024 Hackathon are an ideal spring board for creating working prototypes or minimum viable products (MVPs) that can be further developed into fully working solutions.
