Twitter is launching a dedicated cryptocurrency team as it continues to support the adoption of digital assets and decentralized apps.
Twitter is launching a new division solely dedicated to “all things blockchain and crypto at Twitter.” Called Twitter Crypto, the team will mainly focus on developing solutions for crypto, decentralized applications (DApps), and decentralized finance (DeFi) with Tess Rinearson as the engineering lead.
Before becoming part of Twitter, Rinearson has worked with Chain.com, Cosmos, and the Interchain Foundation. Interchain, which is developing decentralized technologies, as well as Interstellar, a decentralized crypto wallet and exchange. In a thread, Rinearson expressed her enthusiasm for the project as well as what to expect from it: “I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined Twitter, to lead a new team focused on crypto, blockchains, and other decentralized technologies—including and going beyond cryptocurrencies.”
Renearson further explains that her team will concentrate on the blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and other decentralized technologies unnecessarily related to the financial domain. Team also hopes to improve the Bitcoin tipping platform Twitter launched in September and the proof-of-identity service through NFTs which is huge.
Dorsey, a renowned bitcoin enthusiast, has long said he wants to integrate digital assets into Twitter’s future, after successfully introducing bitcoin support to the payments company Square that he also runs, two years ago.
In September, Twitter said it was introducing a new tool that will allow users to send tips to others for their content using bitcoin. It also said it was creating a feature for verifying non-fungible tokens (NFTs), digital collectibles that have exploded in popularity this year and that some users use as their profile pictures.
When you enable Tips on your profile, you can now also add your bitcoin address, which other users can copy your address and paste into a bitcoin wallet of their choice to send you a payment directly.
