WisdomTree and MoonPay have announced a strategic collaboration to make the WisdomTree Treasury Money Market Digital Fund (WTGXX), a tokenized money market mutual fund, more accessible to everyday investors in the United States. The two companies disclosed the agreement in a September 17 press release, saying MoonPay plans to use WTGXX as part of its stablecoin reserve management while WisdomTree builds a new access point for its tokenized funds on MoonPay’s technology and platform.
How the Fund Access Point Works
WisdomTree (NYSE: WT) said the planned access point will use MoonPay’s blockchain technology, letting it reach individual investors beyond the channels served by its broker-dealer, WisdomTree Securities, Inc., a FINRA member. MoonPay’s network hosts more than 35 million accounts and serves more than 1,700 partners, and the fund is distributed by WisdomTree Securities. The move builds on WisdomTree’s earlier push to make the fund tradeable, including round-the-clock trading for WTGXX with real-time settlement. WisdomTree has positioned WTGXX as a bridge between traditional money market investing and on-chain settlement, and reported roughly $176.7 billion in global assets under management as of its last reportable period.
Stablecoin Reserves and Institutional Reach
MoonPay’s plan to hold WTGXX as part of its stablecoin reserve management ties a regulated money market product to the fintech’s broader on-chain activity. “Money moves differently today, and investing needs to keep pace,” said Jonathan Steinberg, WisdomTree’s founder and chief executive. “Working with MoonPay as an access point can give eligible U.S. investors another path to deploy their assets into WTGXX.” The tie-up follows MoonPay’s continued expansion into stablecoins, including its Dutch electronic money institution license for stablecoin issuance. The companies noted that MoonPay is not acting as a broker-dealer or investment adviser with respect to WTGXX.
A Foundation for Broader Tokenized-Fund Growth
The companies framed the collaboration as the foundation for a wider strategic relationship, including additional tokenized fund opportunities across global markets. “Our working relationship with WisdomTree demonstrates how financial innovation can enable better experiences for investors in U.S. regulated markets and products,” said Caroline D. Pham, CEO of MoonPay Institutional. WTGXX seeks to preserve the value of an investment at $1.00 per share but is not a bank account and is not insured or guaranteed by the FDIC or any government agency.
