To ensure his disguise, the scammer sent a tiny amount of cryptocurrency which is 0.000001 $SOL to the victim’s wallet. As a result, the fake address, right alongside legitimate entries, appeared in the transaction history.
When the crypto investor took a shortcut to transfer 7 million $PYTH tokens, worth $3.08 million. Instead of manually verifying the full address, he copied the one from the transaction history. He completed the transfer after seeing that the first few characters matched the intended address, without a second thought. Tragically, the funds were sent to the scammer’s wallet which resulted in an irretrievable loss.
