A single corporate treasury now controls close to one in every twenty ETH in circulation, and it has staked most of that position. The latest disclosure from BitMine shows the firm added 32,447 ETH over the past week, bringing total holdings to 5,847,611 ETH as of August 23, according to the original report. That balance represents about 4.8% of Ethereum’s total supply.
The staking figure is the sharper story. BitMine reported 5,067,309 ETH staked, roughly 87% of its holdings, with projected annualized staking revenue of around $330 million. For comparison, the company listed $308 million in cash and marketable securities. A staking book generating more annualized revenue than the cash position is a different kind of balance sheet, one tied directly to validator economics.
That shift matters beyond the headline balance. A treasury holding ETH is one thing; a treasury staking 87% of that ETH is effectively removing it from active circulation. Rewards compound the position, but the underlying tokens cannot move freely without unstaking delays. The relevant question for traders is not just how much BitMine holds, but how much of that stock would be available under a liquidity event.
Treasury Scale Meets Staking Economics
BitMine’s total crypto, cash, securities and other investments reached $14.9 billion. The ETH position is not the whole balance sheet, but it is the largest disclosed piece of the strategy. A 4.8% supply share is large enough to influence liquidity assumptions, even without any announced selling.
Network participants may read the staking ratio as a sign of long-duration conviction. The projected $330 million in annualized revenue depends on current Ethereum staking yields and the amount staked. Changes in yield, validator penalties, or Ethereum’s exit queue would all affect how easily the position can be adjusted.
Ethereum still leads builder activity among major networks, as tracked in Top 10 Blockchains by Developer Activity This Week, but token ownership concentration is becoming a separate story. Developers keep shipping while a handful of large treasuries keep absorbing supply.
Institutional Capital Is Now a Supply Factor
BitMine’s move fits a broader pattern of corporate and institutional capital treating blockchain assets as balance sheet items rather than short-term trading inventory. Tokenized real-world assets recently crossed $20 billion on-chain, a shift covered in this Weekly Tokenization Roundup. Separately, institutional staking demand has shown up across layer-1 networks, including the capital flows behind Sui’s recent price surge.
For BitMine, staking revenue introduces an income component that equity analysts can model. That may make the company’s financials more legible to institutions, but it also ties earnings to Ethereum network conditions. A prolonged decline in staking yield or an extended validator exit queue would change the cash flow picture without changing the token count.
Regulatory Overhang Still Shapes Large Holders
Holding 4.8% of supply and staking most of it does not happen in a policy vacuum. Washington’s digital asset fight remained unresolved as of this month, with banks pushing against landmark crypto legislation days before a Senate vote. If staking and custody rules shift, large treasury operators will face compliance decisions about where and how to stake.
The update did not specify the validator setup, whether staking is operated internally or through external providers, or how the revenue is recognized across jurisdictions. Investors have to treat the $330 million projection as a number based on current conditions, not guaranteed cash flow. The next disclosure may show whether the buying pace continues, but the 87% staking ratio already tells the market where BitMine’s short-term liquidity is not.
