Cryptocurrency platform Blockchain.com announced a new partnership with North American esports organisation Cloud9
Partnership
Cloud9, a North American esports organization, has announced a multi-year agreement with Blockchain.com, a worldwide cryptocurrency platform. The firm said in an official statement that its goal is to “initiate a discourse about financial literacy and cryptocurrencies within the esports community.”
Cloud9 presently has sixteen professional teams in a variety of video game genres, including Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant, and Fortnite. Following that, all league-sanctioned teams will wear the Blockchain logo on their uniforms.
Cloud9 has a slew of partners, including Microsoft, HyperX, and BMW. Last year, the group collaborated with IMPS, the previous legal holder, to produce a smurfing-themed fashion line. Blockchain.com was an early adopter of bitcoin and rose to popularity in 2011. It has garnered backing from a variety of investors, ranging from Baillie Gifford to VY Capital. Cloud9 has identified the firm as its official bitcoin exchange and wallet partner.

Blockchain.com CEO Peter Smith, said: “As NFTs and digital assets begin to merge with gaming, VR, and AR, we believe that esports will be at the forefront of technology. By sponsoring Cloud9, we are venturing together toward a better, global, distributed future and couldn’t be more excited to partner with their community and organization.”
Cloud9 CEO Jack Etienne, said that there was a “good connection” between the two entities. “Our demographics are the folks that are interested in crypto and work with blockchain. There’s already a large natural alignment. The esports space is often very curious about the crypto world, but there isn’t a lot of understanding of how crypto fits into their life. A lot of what we’re going to be focusing on is teaching our fans how they fit into the crypto world and why it’s important to them.”
When questioned about the partnership’s motivations, Smith further explained to GamesBeat that the two businesses had a shared audience. “There is a significant overlap between those who care about gaming and those who care about cryptocurrency. And it is an intriguing junction, since it concerns living in a digital age.”
