In the latest blow to the blockchain community, a series of high-profile NFTs have been stolen by a cunning imposter operating under the alias “Fake_Phishing187019” on the Blur network to stand as the second attack in over a week.
In a distressing turn of events, renowned NFT collections, including Mutant Ape Yacht Club’s and Moonbirds, have fallen victim to a phishing attack orchestrated by the nefarious individual. The incident was brought to light by PeckShieldAlert, a prominent blockchain security firm, through a tweet that sent shockwaves across the digital art and crypto communities.
Second Attack On Blur
Last week, the community faced a similar crisis, as 185 CryptoPhunks and 7,304 Meebits were snatched in a phishing assault masterminded by “Fake Phishing187019” on the Blur network.
The recent incident mirrors the modus operandi of the criminal, who seems to specialize in targeting high-value NFTs. The victims of the previous heist, the original owners of the stolen CryptoPhunks and Meebits, continue to grapple with the aftermath of the theft. The rarity and uniqueness of these NFTs have only exacerbated the devastation felt by the affected individuals.
The assault, also reported by PeckShieldAlert, involves the utilization of various methods, including ERC2771, to compromise the security of NFT holdings.
The security firm revealed that the attackers have already succeeded in stealing 85 0XLBOTS and 152 CypherpunkZero NFTs. The complexity of the attack underscores the need for heightened vigilance within the blockchain community to thwart such phishing attempts effectively.
The original owners are left devastated as the stolen NFTs, known for their rarity and distinctiveness, now reside in the hands of the malicious actor.
Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind these high-profile NFT thefts.
