A New Dawn for Generative Art
Despite the downturn in the cryptocurrency landscape and the unpredictable NFT market, generative art on the blockchain has experienced a revival recently. Established platforms have dominated the space, but a fresh contender is ready to challenge the status quo.
Platforms such as Art Blocks, known for their curated approach, and international collections like Bright Moments have been at the forefront. These digital pieces, crafted via code and brought to life during the minting process, have charmed art connoisseurs, fetching unparalleled prices.
The appeal of this genre often revolves around curated and exclusive projects. However, with Highlight’s entrance into the scene, there’s a shift in the horizon.
Highlight’s Revolution in the Art Ecosystem
Launching today, Highlight introduces itself as the pioneering “open access” platform for generative art on the Ethereum network. Backed by the renowned Haun Ventures, and with a significant fundraising of $11 million in 2022, Highlight’s vision extends beyond just generative art. They intend to break down barriers in the entire generative art world.
Nathaniel Emodi, Highlight’s CEO, commented on the current Ethereum landscape: “Existing Ethereum tools are restrictive. We observed a pattern of curation and gatekeeping, which, to our eyes, presented a glaring opportunity.”
Differentiating itself from giants like Art Blocks, which meticulously chooses the artists it features, Highlight promises complete freedom, allowing anyone to use and list on their platform without restrictions.
A Friendly Approach Towards Artists
Mainstream generative art platforms often impose a fee on their artist community. Taking Art Blocks as a case in point: they impose a 10% charge on primary NFT sales and 2.5% for subsequent sales. Breaking this mold, Highlight has opted not to deduct any fees from its artists. They plan to sustain their venture through nominal fees levied on purchasers.
Empowering Artists with Advanced Tools
The journey of creating generative artworks can be intricate and time-consuming. Highlight aims to change that narrative by offering a comprehensive toolkit to facilitate the artistic process. As Emodi elaborates, these resources can transform a task that might take weeks or even months into a matter of mere minutes.
Expanding Network Support
Highlight isn’t limiting itself to just the Ethereum network. To foster affordability and versatility, it will also embrace scaling networks renowned for cost-effective transactions. This includes well-known networks like Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Zora Network, and the much-anticipated Coinbase’s Base.
In sum, with its artist-friendly policies, advanced tools, and expansive network support, Highlight seems poised to usher in a new era in the generative art domain. Only time will reveal how this innovative platform will reshape the landscape.
