Polymarket announced Polymarket Protocol V2 on October 5, 2026, a rebuild of the prediction market’s smart-contract foundation that replaces the Gnosis Conditional Tokens Framework the platform has used since 2019. In its announcement, the company said the new architecture collapses years of contracts bolted onto the old framework into a single position contract, one collateral token, one exchange, and one router.
The upgrade is the most sweeping change to Polymarket’s on-chain layer since its launch. Where the previous design needed a separate adapter for wrapped collateral, another for negative-risk markets, and one more for each oracle, Protocol V2 uses a single ERC-1155 position contract in which every position ID encodes the market type, the market, and the outcome, letting the protocol read structure directly from the identifier.
What Protocol V2 Changes
The modular design supports binary, atomic negative-risk, incremental negative-risk, and combinatorial markets, with room for additional market types. Resolution now runs through a new OracleAggregator with pluggable modules for UMA, Chainlink, and future oracles, which Polymarket says widens the design space for how outcomes are settled. Bridging is built in as a first-class feature for positions, collateral, and resolutions, though the company said multi-chain activation will arrive later. The protocol is also upgradeable behind a governance process.
Security, Testing, and Rollout
Polymarket said the codebase was audited by Cantina, Certora, Quantstamp, SigmaPrime, Zellic, and Pashov, and formally verified by Certora, with a bug bounty offering rewards up to $5 million for critical findings. To give developers and market makers time to integrate, the platform is running canary markets in production from October 5 through October 30, ahead of a tentative November 2 switchover for net new markets. The release also introduces Data API V2, a Rust service built on an in-house on-chain indexer with standardized responses and cursor-based pagination.
What It Means for Polymarket
The rebuild arrives as Polymarket widens its product surface. The platform recently launched perpetual trading with up to 20x leverage, and the new foundation is meant to carry that broader product line with fewer integrator approvals and less architectural overhead. The rollout is not yet finished: the November 2 date remains tentative, multi-chain bridging has not been activated, and Polymarket continues to face regulatory pressure, including a lawsuit New York filed in late September accusing the platform of running an unlicensed gambling operation.
