Securitize and Socios.com announced a strategic partnership on September 2 to develop regulated tokenized equity offerings tied to minority interests in professional sports teams. The joint announcement says the proposed products will use the Socios Equity Token brand. Any offering would remain subject to securities laws, league requirements, club approval and local restrictions.
Partners Divide Sports and Securities Roles
Socios.com will manage relationships across the sports industry and build the fan-facing engagement layer. Securitize will lead securities issuance, investor onboarding, ownership-record administration, transfer controls and ongoing servicing through its regulated affiliates.
The structure combines Socios.com’s network in professional sports with Securitize’s regulated tokenization infrastructure. Securitize has also worked with asset managers on products such as a tokenized high-income fund, providing context for the administrative role it would take in the sports initiative.
Fan Tokens Remain a Separate Product
The companies stressed that existing Fan Tokens and the proposed equity tokens are different products. Fan Tokens focus on engagement and utility. Socios Equity Tokens, by contrast, would represent regulated financial interests governed by the applicable offering documents.
Socios.com says it has issued Fan Tokens with more than 70 sports organizations, including Arsenal, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona. That existing network does not mean those teams have agreed to an equity offering; each transaction would still require the relevant owners, clubs and leagues to approve it.
European Infrastructure Is Part of the Plan
The partners expect the initiative to become the first tokenization project launched through Securitize’s European Trading and Settlement System under the EU DLT Pilot Regime. That statement describes an expected path, not a completed launch, and the announcement does not identify a participating club or a timetable for an initial offering.
Securitize co-founder and CEO Carlos Domingo said the infrastructure could give teams and owners another way to issue and administer equity while preserving investor protections and ownership rights. The proposal extends the broader market for tokenized equity instruments into an asset class that is generally privately held.
Execution Now Depends on Approvals
The immediate development is a partnership to build and explore offerings, rather than a sale of any team’s shares. The central questions are which clubs choose to participate, which investors qualify and how league and jurisdictional rules shape each product. Until a specific offering document appears, the commercial terms, valuation, transfer venue and investor access remain undetermined.
