Uniswap’s Layer 2 network Unichain is migrating to Optimism’s OP Enterprise stack, handing day-to-day production operations to Optimism while leaving the chain’s user-facing state — chain ID, deployed contracts, balances and applications — unchanged. The testnet is scheduled to migrate on October 13 and the mainnet on October 29, according to the Uniswap announcement. At the time of writing the migration is scheduled, not yet confirmed complete.
The move is a shift in who runs the infrastructure, not what the chain is. Optimism positions OP Enterprise as production-grade managed infrastructure for OP Stack chains — it handles operations, security, scaling and partner coordination — and Unichain is moving from a support relationship to full production operations under it.
What Changes: Operations, Governance and Security Are Separate
The migration splits three things that are easy to conflate. Optimism takes over production operations: sequencers on mainnet and testnet, RPC access, monitoring and incident response. Governance does not move — contract upgrades remain under Optimism Governance and the Security Council. Security status also stays the same: Unichain remains a Stage 1 rollup with permissionless fault proofs.
| Layer | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Production operations (sequencers, RPC, monitoring, incident response) | Uniswap Labs, with OP Enterprise support | Optimism (OP Enterprise) |
| Contract upgrades / governance | Optimism Governance + Security Council | Unchanged |
| Rollup security status | Stage 1, permissionless fault proofs | Unchanged |
| Chain ID, contracts, balances, apps | Existing | Unchanged |
| Uniswap v2/v3/v4 deployments | Running | Running, no interruption |
What Native Interoperability Does Not Launch on October 13
The migration is preparation, not delivery. Bridge-free asset movement between Unichain and other OP Stack chains — the stated point of the upgrade — goes live only after native interoperability ships, and applies to ETH first. The announcements do not state that native interoperability launches on either migration date, so users should not expect bridge-free transfers to begin then.
Developer Migration Checklist
The following is BlockchainReporter’s practical checklist, not official Uniswap instructions:
- Confirm wallets, indexers and tooling resolve correctly against the migrated testnet once it is live.
- Re-verify RPC endpoints after the sequencer handover, since RPC access now runs under Optimism.
- Test contracts on testnet before mainnet migrates on October 29 — roughly two weeks of runway.
- Check that no contract logic depends on the previous operator’s sequencer behavior.
What Happens Next
The testnet migration is scheduled for October 13, with mainnet following on October 29. No user action or wallet reconfiguration has been announced; the first visible change will be native interoperability rolling out later, beginning with ETH. For developers, the testnet window is the moment to validate tooling against the new operator before real value moves across the chain — a continuation of Uniswap protocol work that recently added a StablePair hook for stablecoin pairs.
