Trust Wallet Review 2026: Is Trust Wallet Safe, Legit and Worth Using?

Page Last Reviewed: October 2026

Trust Wallet is one of the most downloaded self-custody crypto wallets. It supports more than 100 blockchains and millions of assets in a mobile app and a browser extension. In this Trust Wallet review, we look at its security record, fees and features for 2026.

Our verdict: Trust Wallet is legitimate and safe for everyday use if you protect your recovery phrase. Its browser extension, however, has had two serious incidents, and fake support scams remain the most common threat. Below, we cover what Trust Wallet does well, where it falls short and how it compares with MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet and Exodus.

Key Takeaways

• Trust Wallet is non-custodial. You hold the private keys, and the company never has access to your funds.
• It supports more than 100 blockchains and millions of assets, one of the broadest ranges among multi-chain wallets.
• The mobile app has a built-in Security Scanner that rates each transaction and warns you about risky ones.
• The browser extension has had two security incidents. A wallet generation flaw, disclosed in April 2023, cost users about $170,000. A malicious update in December 2025 drained about $7 million. The mobile app was not affected, and Trust Wallet pledged to compensate users both times.
• There is no official customer service phone number. Any “Trust Wallet support number” you find online is almost certainly a scam.
• You pay network fees on every transaction, plus a standard fee on most in-app swaps.
• Trust Wallet launched in 2017 and was acquired by Binance in 2018, but it operates as an independent multi-chain wallet.

What Is Trust Wallet?

Trust Wallet is a self-custody (non-custodial) cryptocurrency wallet. The private keys that control your funds are stored, encrypted, on your own device rather than held by a company. In app stores, it is listed as Trust: Crypto & Bitcoin Wallet. It runs on iOS and Android, and a separate browser extension covers desktop.

Trust Wallet launched in 2017 and was acquired by Binance in 2018. It still works as an independent wallet rather than an exchange-locked product. It supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana and dozens of other networks, with built-in staking, token swaps and NFT storage.

Is Trust Wallet decentralized? Partly. Your keys and funds are fully self-custodied. However, a central team builds and maintains the app, and swaps are routed through third-party liquidity providers rather than a DEX of its own. Its core library, Wallet Core, is open source, so anyone can review the code on GitHub.

Key Features

• Multi-chain support: More than 100 blockchains and millions of assets in one interface.
• Built-in Security Scanner: The mobile app assigns a risk level to each transaction and warns you before you sign a risky one. Risk data comes from Binance Risk and HashDit.
• Web3 browser: Connect to decentralized apps (dApps) and DeFi protocols from inside the app.
• Staking: Earn rewards on supported proof-of-stake assets directly in the wallet.
• NFT support: View and manage NFTs on supported chains next to your tokens.
• In-app swaps: Swap tokens without leaving the app. Under a September 2026 campaign, some staked and wrapped assets, such as stETH and jitoSOL, swap with 0% Trust Wallet fees.
• Ledger support: The browser extension works with Ledger hardware wallets, so your keys can stay offline while you use Trust Wallet’s interface.

Is Trust Wallet Safe?

Yes, for most users, with one caveat about the browser extension. Trust Wallet is non-custodial, so there is no central pool of customer funds to steal, as there is on an exchange. The mobile app was not affected by either of the wallet’s known security incidents. Both hit the extension, and in both cases Trust Wallet pledged to compensate affected users.

Trust Wallet Security Incidents

• December 2025, browser extension v2.68: On December 24, attackers used a leaked Chrome Web Store API key to publish a malicious version of the Chrome extension. It drained about $7 million from users’ wallets before version 2.69 fixed the issue on December 25. The mobile app and other extension builds were not compromised. Trust Wallet opened a claims process to cover the losses.
• April 2023, wallet generation flaw: A bug in the WebAssembly build of Trust Wallet’s core library put some extension wallets at risk. Only addresses created in the browser extension between November 14 and November 23, 2022, were affected. Two exploits cost users about $170,000. Mobile-only users and imported recovery phrases were safe, and Trust Wallet said it would reimburse affected users.

The practical lesson is that the extension has carried more risk than the mobile app. Keep it updated and connect a Ledger for larger balances. Outside these incidents, losses usually happen the same way as with any self-custody wallet. Users expose their recovery phrase, type it into a phishing site that copies Trust Wallet, or approve a malicious smart contract that drains the wallet.

How to Keep Trust Wallet Secure

• Never share your 12-word recovery phrase, including with anyone who claims to be Trust Wallet support.
• Download Trust Wallet only from the Apple App Store, Google Play or trustwallet.com, never from a link in an email, DM or ad.
• Turn on the app’s passcode or biometric lock in addition to your phone’s lock screen.
• Read Security Scanner warnings before you sign. Check smart contract permissions and revoke access for dApps you no longer use.
• Keep the browser extension updated, and pair it with a Ledger hardware wallet for holdings you don’t need every day.

Is Trust Wallet a Cold Wallet?

No. Trust Wallet is a hot wallet. It stays connected to the internet, which is convenient for daily use. That also makes it less secure than a hardware (cold) wallet such as Ledger or Trezor, which keeps keys offline. For a large long-term position, pair the Trust Wallet extension with a Ledger: cold storage for savings, hot wallet convenience for active use.

Is Trust Wallet Legit?

Yes. Trust Wallet is a legitimate, widely used product owned by Binance, with tens of millions of downloads and an operating history going back to 2017. Doubts about its legitimacy almost always involve impersonators, such as fake support accounts, phishing links and cloned apps, rather than the real application.

Trust Wallet Scams to Watch For

Trust Wallet has no phone support line, and scammers exploit that gap by posing as official support. We searched for a Trust Wallet support number in October 2026. The results included fake support pages and PDFs uploaded to unrelated university and government websites. Anyone who calls you on behalf of Trust Wallet, or asks you to call a number, is a scammer. Anyone who asks for your recovery phrase is trying to steal your funds. Real help is available only through Trust Wallet’s official help center and its verified social media accounts.

Other common scams include fake apps listed outside the official stores and phishing sites that copy the trustwallet.com download page. Watch out for unsolicited “airdrop” links, too: they ask you to connect your wallet and sign a malicious transaction.

Trust Wallet Fees

Trust Wallet does not charge fees for holding, sending or receiving most assets. You pay the blockchain’s network (gas) fee, which goes to miners or validators, not to Trust Wallet. There is no minimum deposit, because you are not depositing into a custodial account.

In-app swaps work differently. Besides the network fee, a swap can include a standard Trust Wallet fee, a provider or liquidity fee and price impact on large trades. The quote shows how much you will receive before you sign, so compare it with a standalone DEX if cost matters. Swaps between eligible staked and wrapped assets on the same chain currently carry 0% Trust Wallet fees.

Trust Wallet Pros and Cons

Pros:

• Supports 100+ blockchains natively, more than most competing wallets.
• Fully non-custodial: you control your private keys at all times.
• Built-in Security Scanner warns about risky transactions in the mobile app.
• Staking, swaps and NFT support in one app.
• Free to download and use beyond network and swap fees.
• Ledger hardware wallet support in the browser extension.

Cons:

• Two browser extension incidents, disclosed in 2023 and 2025, although users were offered compensation.
• No phone support, which gives impersonation scammers an opening.
• Hot wallet only, with no built-in hardware security.
• In-app swaps can cost more than trading on a DEX directly.
• Binance ownership may put off users who want a wallet with no exchange ties.
• Recovery depends entirely on your recovery phrase. There is no account recovery option.

How to Withdraw Money From Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet is not a bank account, so cashing out always goes through a third party. In some countries, you can sell crypto through a provider inside the app, such as MoonPay. The more common route is an exchange: send your crypto there, sell it and withdraw to your bank.

1. Open Trust Wallet and select the asset you want to withdraw.
2. Tap Send and paste your exchange deposit address, copied exactly from the exchange for the matching network.
3. Confirm the transaction and wait for network confirmation.
4. On the exchange, sell the asset for USD or your local currency.
5. Start a standard bank withdrawal from the exchange.

Check the network before you send, for example ERC-20 versus BEP-20. Sending on the wrong network is one of the most common ways self-custody users lose funds. Trust Wallet cannot reverse a transaction once it is confirmed on-chain.

Trust Wallet vs MetaMask

MetaMask is the more established wallet for Ethereum and EVM chains, with deeper browser extension tooling and broader dApp compatibility on Ethereum. The multi-chain gap has narrowed: MetaMask added native Solana support in May 2025 and native Bitcoin support in December 2025. Trust Wallet still covers far more networks out of the box. If you mostly use Ethereum apps, MetaMask’s ecosystem is hard to beat. If you hold assets across many unrelated blockchains, Trust Wallet is more convenient. Our MetaMask review covers its features in detail.

Trust Wallet vs Coinbase Wallet

Coinbase renamed its self-custody wallet the Base App in July 2025 and returned to the Coinbase Wallet name in September 2026. It integrates closely with the Coinbase exchange. The app now focuses on trading features such as perpetual futures, prediction markets and tokenized stocks, and it hides scam tokens automatically. It supports about a dozen major networks, including Base, Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin and BNB Chain, while Trust Wallet supports more than 100. If you already buy and sell on Coinbase, read our Coinbase review before choosing a wallet to pair with the exchange.

Trust Wallet vs Exodus

Exodus is another popular non-custodial multi-chain wallet, known for a polished desktop app and a built-in exchange feature. Trust Wallet supports more blockchains overall and has the scale that comes with Binance ownership. Exodus suits users who want a desktop-first experience alongside mobile.

Should You Use Trust Wallet?

Trust Wallet is a solid choice if you hold assets on several blockchains and want one non-custodial app to manage them, stake and use DeFi. It is less suited to Ethereum-only power users who prefer MetaMask. A large long-term position also belongs on a hardware wallet rather than a hot wallet. If you use the browser extension, keep it updated and connect a Ledger for larger balances. As with any self-custody wallet, the biggest risk is your own responsibility. If you lose your recovery phrase, no support line can get your funds back.

Nothing on this page constitutes financial advice. Use only the official Trust Wallet app from trustwallet.com, the Apple App Store or Google Play. Never install it from a link in an unsolicited message or ad.

FAQ

Is Trust Wallet safe to use in 2026?
Yes, for most users. Trust Wallet is non-custodial, its core library is open source, and the mobile app has a built-in Security Scanner that flags risky transactions. Its weak spot has been the browser extension, which had security incidents disclosed in 2023 and 2025. Keep the extension updated, protect your recovery phrase and use a hardware wallet for large balances.

Can Trust Wallet be hacked?
Yes, and it has happened through the browser extension. In December 2025, attackers used a leaked Chrome Web Store API key to push a malicious extension update that drained about $7 million. In 2023, Trust Wallet disclosed a wallet generation flaw that cost users about $170,000. The mobile app was not affected, and Trust Wallet pledged to compensate users in both cases.

Is Trust Wallet legit or a scam?
Trust Wallet is a legitimate wallet. It launched in 2017, Binance acquired it in 2018, and it has tens of millions of downloads. Scam reports almost always involve impersonators, such as fake support accounts, cloned apps and phishing sites, rather than the real application. Download it only from trustwallet.com, the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Does Trust Wallet have a customer service phone number?
No. Trust Wallet does not offer phone support, so any “Trust Wallet support number” is a scam, including numbers posted on pages that look official. Real help comes only through Trust Wallet’s help center and its verified social media accounts. No genuine support agent will ever ask for your recovery phrase.

What is the Trust Wallet Security Scanner?
The Security Scanner is built into the Trust Wallet mobile app. It assigns a risk level to each transaction and warns you before you sign one that looks dangerous, using risk data from Binance Risk and HashDit. It lowers the chance of approving a malicious contract, but it does not replace checking addresses and links yourself.

Is Trust Wallet a cold wallet?
No. Trust Wallet is a hot wallet that stays connected to the internet. For cold storage, connect the Trust Wallet browser extension to a Ledger hardware wallet, which keeps your keys offline while you use Trust Wallet’s interface. Keep only the funds you use regularly in the hot wallet.

What are the disadvantages of Trust Wallet?
The main drawbacks are the two browser extension incidents, the lack of phone support, which scammers exploit, and the fact that it is a hot wallet. In-app swaps can also cost more than trading on a DEX directly, and some users prefer a wallet with no ties to an exchange such as Binance. Recovery depends entirely on your recovery phrase.

Is Trust Wallet better than MetaMask?
It depends on how you use crypto. Trust Wallet supports more than 100 blockchains out of the box, which suits people with assets on many networks. MetaMask has deeper tooling for Ethereum and EVM apps, and since 2025 it also supports Solana and Bitcoin natively. Ethereum-heavy users often prefer MetaMask, while multi-chain holders often prefer Trust Wallet.

How much does Trust Wallet cost?
Trust Wallet is free to download and use. You pay blockchain network fees on transactions, which go to validators rather than Trust Wallet. Most in-app swaps also include a standard Trust Wallet fee plus provider costs, and the quote shows how much you will receive before you confirm. Under a campaign that started in September 2026, swaps between eligible staked and wrapped assets on the same chain carry 0% Trust Wallet fees.

Does Trust Wallet support Bitcoin as well as Ethereum?
Yes. Trust Wallet supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana and more than 100 blockchains in total, with millions of assets in one app. You can hold, send and receive Bitcoin alongside Ethereum and other tokens without installing separate wallets.
